About the Item

16x24 on metal - 20x30 on metal - Dye Sublimation Print on metal Architects: Roger Ferris + Partners The Clubhouse at the BRIDGE Not so at the Bridge, a golf club principally owned by Robert Rubin, a former commodities trader and self-styled maverick, which is nearing completion on the site of the old Bridgehampton Motor Racing Circuit. The clubhouse — glassy and aggressively futuristic — looks more like a contemporary art museum in Berlin, which is not inappropriate, since it will feature, upon its completion this fall, art from Mr. Rubin’s collection. A satirical piece called “Arthur Negro I,” a life-size statue of a black revolutionary in an argyle sweater and plus fours, by Charles McGill, a black artist, will stand in the pro shop. The 18-hole golf course gets an arty, postmodern treatment: ruins of the old racetrack, including guardrails and flag stations, pop up around the lush fairways. Discarded tires line the cart paths. About the artist: A computer programmer and Webmaster by trade, Paul describes himself as a fine art photographer and a “digital manipulator.” His keen vision captures ordinary details from daily life and transforms them into images of beauty and wit, filled with contrasting shapes and effects. Paul’s current series of abstract work focuses on macro images of nature combined with additional exposures of ice, snow, sand, and sky. These futuristic scenes, inspired by the writings of Kurt Vonnegut, offer a wry commentary on global warming and climate change. Paul’s work is printed on a variety of substrates including metal, paper, and canvas. His photography has been displayed in galleries such as Ashawagh Hall, Southampton Cultural Center, Water Mill Museum, East End Arts, Southold Historical Museum, Remsenburg Academy, Quogue Library, and Guild Hall. He also exhibits at Spectrum Miami as part of Art Basel, Miami. Paul has donated his time and images for fundraising for nature conservancy and animal rescue. He also currently serves as Vice President and Webmaster for the Southampton Artists Association.
