About the Item
This young Fulani boy with his huge turban wrap was wandering through the backstreets of the great mosque in Djenne, an amazing structure which is the largest mud building on earth. He was returning from the huge Monday market, a site of trading chaos situated right in front of the beautiful mosque, with two friends who were wearing equally large turbans.
As a member of the Fulani, he was a town dwelling equivalent of the Fula tribe and at some point his family had changed their nomadic lifestyle to a settled existence near to town.
John Kenny’s work is all shot on location in some of the remotest corners of Africa. His images are all taken with natural light and his subjects in their day to day attire.
The C-type prints are mounted with an acrylic face mount giving them a 3-dimensional appearance and a contemporary look.
