Heidi L Sherman
"Tibetan Prayer Flags" Sepia Toned Photograph

1996

About the Item

"Tibetan Prayer Flags" Sepia Toned Photograph Serene photo of flags in a yard by Heidi L Sherman (American, 1954-5014). Two rows of prayer flags are strung in a yard, with lush foliage surrounding them. Sherman was a teacher of Transcendental Meditation, so it is likely that these flags held a special significance for her. Titled, signed, and dated blow the photograph, on the mat: "Tibetan Prayer Flags" Heidi L Sherman 1996 Presented in a wood frame with a white mat. Artist's business card affixed to verso. Frame size: 16"H x 13"W Image size: 3.5"H x 4.75"W This photograph hung on my Studio wall for 15 years, as a fine art Black and white photographer I appreciate her vision. I reluctantly decided to share. Heidi Lopata Sherman was born in St. Louis on Jan. 24, 1954. After graduating from Clayton High School, she attended Washington University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and photography. She took post-graduate photography courses at the University of Texas in Dallas and Harvard University. She worked as a creative director at Emerson Electric, where she art directed and produced the firm’s annual report. Sherman’s photographic work has been exhibited in Europe and the United States, including a show at the Dallas Museum of Art. It also has been purchased by numerous private collectors and by several art museums, including the Art Museum of St. Louis. She managed her career in fine art photography not only in St. Louis, but also while living in Dallas, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. She was represented by galleries in New York City, Santa Fe, Dallas and Boston. She became interested in Transcendental Meditation in 1970 and in 1972 was made a TM teacher, one of the youngest teachers of the worldwide TM movement. She was a member of the board of directors of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra. Sherman was also a founding member of the Friends of Photography of the Dallas Museum of Art and Forest Park Forever. Sierra Mountain Reflections - Black & White Landscape Photograph
By Robert Werling
Located in Soquel, CA
Stunning black & white landscape photograph with trees reflecting in water in the Sierra Nevada mountains by California artist Robert Werling. Signed on mat lower right: "Bob Werling." Presented in a silver metal frame. Image, 15"H x 19"W. Robert Werling was born in San Francisco, California in 1946 and realized an interest in art at an early age. While briefly attending a commercial art school, he found photography to be his medium and went on to obtain both a BA and an honorary MS from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. He also studied privately under Ansel Adams from 1966 to 1970 and Imogen Cunningham from 1969 to 1975. Through his affiliation with Adams, Werling came to know and work with other noted photographers. Brett Weston became his close friend and mentor and Marion Post Wolcott, relying on his darkroom expertise, entrusted her negatives to his printing genius. While creating an impressive number of his own fine art prints, Werling also lectured extensively and worked as an instructor for the Brooks Institute, the University of California, Santa Barbara, the Zone System Seminars and Workshops in the United States, and for the Werkschule fur Fotografie in Soltau, Germany. Werling has exhibited his photographs in over sixty one-man and group shows in both the United States and Europe. He was guest curator of photography for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art organizing VIVO, the Contemporary Japanese Photography and Brett Weston’s photographs...
