Printed later by Cole Weston from the original negative. The negative is retired and housed at the Center for Creative Photography in Tuscon, Arizona. Weston Gallery is owned by Matthew (grandson of Edward Weston and son of renowned collector and dealer Margaret "Maggi" Weston) and his wife Davi Weston and we've been dealing in fine art photography since 1975! Edward Weston (1886 – 1958) was an American photographer, and co-founder of Group f/64. Most of his work was done using an 8 by 10 inch view camera. In 1902, he received his first camera for his sixteenth birthday, a Kodak Bull's-Eye #2, and began taking photographs in parks in Chicago and at his aunt's farm. The young Weston met with quick success, and his photographs were already being exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute merely a year later, in 1903. Weston worked mainly with nudes, still life - his shells and vegetable studies were especially important - and landscape subjects. After a few exhibitions of his works in New York, he went on to found Group f/64 in 1932 with fellow photographers Ansel Adams, Willard van Dyke and others. Weston became the first photographer ever to be selected for the Guggenheim fellowship in 1937. Stricken with Parkinson's disease, Weston made his last photographs at Point...

Marc Vaux, a figure of Montparnasse, pro­duced a trove of pho­tographs which are cur­rently held in the col­lec­tion of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France. Marc Vaux was com­mitted equally to sup­porting artists, notably by cre­ating the Foyer des Artistes (1946-70) and, in 1951, the first Musée du Montparnasse at 10, rue de l’Arrivée. Marc Vaux was born on February 19, 1895 in Crulai, Normandy Thanks to the color mer­chant from whom he bought his plates and his pho­to­graphic equip­ment, he met the sculptor Charles Desvergnes winner of Prix the Rome and author of var­ious memo­rials who was looking for someone to pho­tographs his works. An East Hampton Photographer who shot Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Larry Rivers, Philip Guston, Conrad Marca-Relli, Syd Solomon, and James Brooks amongst other art luminaries. This is for the original vintage photograph. I believe the inscription is in the hand of Ibram Lassaw some also bear the photographers stamp. Lassaw was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of Russian Jewish émigré parents, he went to the U.S. in 1921. His family settled in Brooklyn, New York. He became a US citizen in 1928.
