Madhu Basu - Magma n°27 - 25.75 X 21.25 inches (unframed size) Acrylic & Pigment on canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Vessels and pots being of importance in Madhu Basu's works talk about the basic needs of everyday life. The need of this basic utensil that can be used in so many ways by anybody as a simple survival strategy. Style : The pigment technique is today the essential material of his work. His paintings depict the theme of the pot- which according to a Bengali proverb “contains the universe”- in compositions that lie on the border between abstraction & figuration. Each of his paintings invites to a poetic meditation resulting from the form and the vibrating light of its blacks. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1956 in Kolkata. Education : 1988 : Graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Calcutta. The same year, as soon as he arrived in France, he was welcomed as a guest artist at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris where he worked on various pictorial techniques, including pigments, which is now the exclusive material for his work.
