Lynette Cook
Deco Delight

2023

About the Item

'Deco Delight' depicts a San Francisco building facade with cool shadows cascading across an art deco building and golden light reflected in the window panes. The subtle and brilliant work of art is meticulously hand painted by Lynette Cook, who realistically depicts scenes that she sees during her morning walks through the city, yet her paintings tend to reveal more than what initially meets the eye. Exterior facades of urban dwellings that are both architecturally complex — and mundane — are the focus of Cook’s Shadows and Silhouettes series of contemporary photorealistic acrylic paintings that capture San Francisco and other Northern California towns and convey the stories of their inhabitants. The paintings often feature the rhythmic dark-light dance of light traveling through wrought-iron balconies and inner-city fire escapes, and captures that which is universal and connects all people in their elemental desire to create a sense of home. Lynette Cook's important architectural series — Shadows and Silhouettes — was exhibited at California’s Morris Graves Museum in 2016. In the same year the artist was awarded a prestigious Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner Foundation honorary grant. Cook's work was also exhibited at the Peninsula Museum of Art in California in a solo show in 2020 and will be included at the de Young Museum of Art in San Francisco's 'On the Edge' exhibition 2020. Deco Delight is 36 x 24 inches. Hand painted in 2023, An original acrylic on canvas painting. Condition is excellent. Signed, dated and titled by artist.

The Hollywood Roosevelt - Original Iconic Architecture Inspired Painting
By Kathleen Keifer
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer's original artworks represent one of the most significant expressions of New California Realism. Keifer brings a fresh perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her detailed paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye for clever composition and layered colors. Her modern landscapes and sublime seascapes capture an impressive visceral visual. This one-of-a-kind 20-inch square and 1.5-inch deep artwork is a composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The sides are painted black and it does not require framing. Kathleen Keifer signed this artwork on the front. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage. While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects. Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London. Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Kathleen Keifer's original artworks since 2017. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media. An American art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Photorealism evolved from Pop Art as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements. Though Photorealists share some aspects of American realists, such as Edward Hopper, they tried to set themselves as much apart from traditional realists as they did Abstract Expressionists. Photorealists were much more influenced by the work of Pop artists and were reacting against Abstract Expressionism. The word Photorealism was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1969 and appeared in print for the first time in 1970 in a Whitney Museum catalogue for the show "Twenty-two Realists." It is also sometimes labeled as Super-Realism, New Realism, Sharp Focus Realism...
