Chilean painter and graphic artist Juan Gomez Quiroz.
His concern is in breaking with what he refers to as the naivety of realism and the artist’s caprice. He describes his work as “embodying a complete epistemological break with the Euclidean-Cartesian view of space and their modes of representation.”
Juan Gomez-Quiroz builds his own structures, making their contours reflect the dictation of different mathematical functions while preserving the reality of the image. In the curves of the canvas, Gomez-Quiroz anchors his topological nudes, portraits, and other statements in art; which is to say, the curves of the canvas give us different points of view while preserving its representational character. Through these representational curves, Gomez-Quiroz is redefining the nature of the art object as one capable of embodying its own system of unique rules and forces while unearthing a universal, and previously unintended, facet of the world and the way we perceive it. To understand how Gomez-Quiroz has altered the objective status of a painting, one must analyze his resolve for creating a new language of visual thinking—one that relies on mathematics to provide the syntax of matter and brings life to Gomez-Quiroz’s language of art.
Juan Manuel Gomez-Quiroz (1939 - 2021) was born in Santiago, Chile, and began his formal art studies there. A painter as well as a printmaker, he studied at the Gregorio de la Fuente workshop in 1956 and the following year enrolled at the School of Fine Arts, University of Chile. In 1962 he received a Fulbright Scholarship and traveled to study at the Rhode Island School of Design and Yale University's School of Art and Architecture.. He held positions in the Department of Art at New York University from 1969 to 1976, and the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Art in New York from 1990. He also served as director of Writer's Space at Hostos Community College, City University of New York.
Eventually, Gomez-Quiroz settled in New York, studied at the Pratt Graphic Center, and was an adjunct professor of art at NYU (New York University) from 1969 to 1976 and also taught at FIT's (Fashion Institute of Technology) Printmaker Workshop. In 1986, he became a curator at the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art, and he was a member of the jury at the Olympic Arts Competition. His work was greatly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and the techniques and principles of Action Painting which dominated the art world in the 1950s.
He had numerous solo exhibitions in South America, Europe, Canada, Puerto Rico and the United States.

Pink Roses
Oil on canvas, artist signed.
At an early age Lisa began to draw and paint images of the lush Korean countryside. She loved the colors and beauty of nature. Lisa enjoys painting still-life floral bouquets; water lilies and the colorful countryside of European landscapes with fields of sunflowers, lavender and poppies are some her favorite subject matters. Her use of color is excellent and her technique involves the use of pallet knife work with thick brushstrokes and paint on canvas. This adds a tremendous amount of depth to her original landscape and still-life paintings.
She has won over 7 awards and honors in the National Student Fine Art Competition in Seoul, Korea. She is a Recipient of the Special Prize at both the Competition of Fine Art at Hong-Ik University and the Korean Women Fine Art Exhibition at Sejong Cultural Center, Korea.
Lisa is a member of the Korean Fine Art Association, and the Korean Women Oil Paintings Association. Her artwork has been in many exhibitions such as the Korean Modern...
