The beautiful painting is inspired by the work of the brilliant French-Flemish painter Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer specialized in flower pieces. His sumptuous, monumental and elegantly decorative conception of floral still life remained normative in France until the mid-18th century. Our admirable canvas exhibits Monnoyer's qualities as a colourist, his technical virtuosity in the mimetic rendering of the large number of species of flowers and fruit reproduced, the elegant and freedom of his compositions.
