About the Item

MARKUS LINNENBRINK BREAKINGTHROUGHTHESOIL, 2022 Epoxy resin and pigments on wood 24 x 96 inches 61 x 243.8 cm Signed, titled, and dated (verso) (MMG#35461) -- German-born, Brooklyn-based artist, Markus Linnenbrink, has established a thirty-year painting career of drips, drills, and reverses. With an emphasis on process, his skillfully engineered paintings derive from the artist’s exploration of color with attention to the behavior of material. Blending a myriad of pigments with epoxy resin, the artist composes a magnificent formation of colors. The drip process takes place when the artist pours cups of pigment from the top of the canvas allowing for ribbons of color to be interspersed on the surface. To form his drills, Linnenbrink repurposes accumulated layers of resin from the drip paintings. Here, he drills into the surface to reveal layers of contrasting, saturated color, creating visual details dense with the careful evidence of time and labor. Markus Linnenbrink (b. 1961, Dortmund, Germany) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
