About the Item
I'm a sailor as well as an artist, and I get much of my inspiration from my sailing trips. I've sailed past the Chesapeake Bay Thomas Point Light Station many times, in weather both fair and foul. This painting was inspired by a particularly stormy day, with late afternoon thunder clouds approaching and the wind kicking up the waves. Located off Thomas Point at the mouth of the South River on Chesapeake Bay, Thomas Point Shoal Light Station stands guard over a shoal that juts out from Thomas Point. Constructed in 1875, it is the only screw-pile lighthouse in the bay which stands on its original site.
