A Venetian Canal Scene

Yakov Tarasovich Besperstov was a Soviet painter who lived and did much of his work in the city known then as Leningrad, now Saint Petersburg.
He studied art at the Leningrad Art School and painted portraits of workers, miners, and fishermen in the spirit of the Soviet realistic tradition, and became a full member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts.
His work later became very much in the impressionist style and became a member of the Union of Russian Artists.
He travelled extensively to Paris, Venice, and North Africa in the 1970’s, and painted oriental scenes and landscapes in Algiers, Cairo, Alexandra, Istanbul, Beirut and Lebanon.
He has held many Exhibitions in Russia, France, and Spain.
