The only thing you perhaps need to accompany enjoyment of this scene in the South of France is a wonderful glass of cool wine. An absolutely lovely depiction of a hot summer coastal scene, painted loosely, the colours of the heat on this day reaching out along the old wooden pontoon from the scorched flora close to the beach into a deep azure sea. One to enjoy when you are dreaming of far away places.
This painting is from a small collection of work by the same hand, all on the same canvas-textured heavyweight paper. They were purchased by us in France and the scenes all seem to be be from the South of France and Provence. They very much feel as if they were painted "en plein air" as the artist has captured the scene with a very fresh breezy feel to the colours and texture. All are unsigned, are very good quality by an accomplished hand, bear good bright colour and are very clean. The ideal way to display would be to affix it to board and frame it.
Condition report:
Very clean, stored by the artist for some time we believe. The paint is applied thickly in places, giving a great depth of texture and movement. Small pinholes to the extreme four corners where the artist affixed it to a board loosely to paint the image.
