About the Item
Autumn Skies V by Suzanne Winn. A larger painting inspired by the colours and rich light of autumn. The glow of the setting sun across the harvested fields picks up the most wonderful colours, which have a depth, and also a softness, as the season slips away. Painted expressively with gestural brushwork in rich, thick oils.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
I am a landscape artist living in rural Hampshire, England. Central to my work is a desire to tap into the energy I feel when I am within the landscape. This energy for me brings a sense of movement and freedom, and a feeling of connection. Much of my work is based upon landscapes immediately local to my home. I like to revisit the same locations repeatedly, so I really can get to know these places intimately. A core aim for me is to convey something of how it feels to be within these spaces, and my emotional responses to experiencing nature in this way. The first stage in my artistic process is to go out and draw within the landscape, using charcoals and/or pastels. I use charcoals to create tonal studies and pastels to lay down colour. I work rapidly, focusing on key shapes, tones and colours, and trying to capture the energy and feeling of the moment. I aim to go out drawing every week, so that I can stay attuned to the landscape as it changes from season to season, and indeed from day to day and from moment to moment. Back in the studio I paint in oils from my sketches, memory, and from photographs that I have taken whilst out working and walking in the fields. I work with a limited, but very flexible colour palette. I like to work “alla prima”, adopting a wet-on-wet approach, often layering up thick, impasto layers of paint in a single painting session. My aim is to anchor my work in what I have seen and observed, but also to work instinctively and intuitively, focusing on conveying a sense of energy, atmosphere and emotion.

Migration Emerald, Original Painting, Clouds, Dreamy, Greens, Blues, Yellows
Located in Deddington, GB
The underpainting is done with watercolour. This is really tricky for few reasons. It took me a considerable amount of time to work out the canvas maker that is suitable for the effect. For the paint to give me these beautiful semi translucent washes, the cotton has to be the right grain and correctly primed. The underpainting takes very little room for mistake and even now sometimes I scrap the canvas and start all over. There is very special fast drying medium used to cover delicate layers with the right amount of thin oil paint and to make the pigment more fade resistant and prevent from any yellowing. This stage is repeated many times to build the satisfactory depth. I then go with a tiny brush to go over the edges and borders, adding definition with acrylic. Final two - the signature, usually on the front though some paintings I leave unsigned on the front till they are sold, so the buyer can cast his/her wish to see my surname on the front or back of the artwork The paper planes connected a thin thread which they tied up to each other or the clouds. S t o r y The Migration collection is intend to capture the subject of departure focusing on positive effects of separation, leaving, breaking ties. The paper airplane is a faceless portrait...

"Iron Bridge" Large Oil Painting on Canvas 1989 by Paul Weingarten
Located in Pasadena, CA
The artwork features a red bridge above a narrow river. A tiny boat passes by, between the two huge structures holding the bridge on each side. Depicting an industrial environment, the artist gave the overall impression of a middle ground between nature and technology.
