An original oil painting in calm muted colours. Built up in layers, this painting started as a sketch on Dartmoor. When looking closely the viewer can see the variety of bold brush strokes that have been used to make this piece into the painting it is. When looking at this piece you can imagine the soft pink light hitting the hills in the evening. It is a calm and lovely painting that works well paired with any of the other three in this series.

Sophie Berger's recent work has been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. She often sketches on the north moors and in Skaigh woods, taking in the mood of the sky, rolling hills and streams or concentrating on the intricate twisted branches and roots of the bracken. Sophie Berger's next stage is to recapture these sketches using oil paint when back at the studio in Kigbeare, thereby creating a strong connection between her work and the landscape. The changeable, moody landscapes awash with colour, horizons and the vast openness have inspired artist Sophie Berger to explore the feeling of being in this environment, so to describe these works as landscapes would be to miss the essence of the places they strive to capture.

Sophie Berger
Sophie Berger is a contemporary artist living and working in Devon. Her recent works have been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. Tower Bridge Ripples was inspired by a late afternoon trip to Bermondsey. From there Tower Bridge looked hazy in contrast to the bright sparkling light on The Thames. The painting was created using textured acrylic medium. Oil paint was then applied in layers to define and illuminate the image.
