Pieter Fraterman begann his studies by attending the evening classes held by H. Meijer and J. Giessen at the Royal Academy of Art in Den Haag from 1930 to 1936. In a second period during the war Pieter continued his studies at the Royal Academy from 1941 to 1944 under H. Meijer, H. van Dam and W. Schrofer. Pieter received plenty of recognition during his career. In 1937 he received a Royal grant, the Jacob Maris Foundation Prize in 1961, the Jacob Hartog Foundation Prize in 1964 and the Talens Prize also in 1964. Pieter Fraterman is best known for his clean still life compositions – Here a somewhat rarer and certainly wilder painting of a colourful orchard garden for you to consider to ad to your life. The painting is in good and clean condition retaining what looks to be its original somewhat tired frame – I would date the painting and the frame to the mid 20th century.
