Oliver Corbett
"Along the River" 20th Century American Colorful Oil Painting of Landscape Trees

Early 20th Century

About the Item

A wonderful depiction of a colorful landscape with puffed trees by the country side. For this beautiful depiction, we find distinct elements that are unique to the earlier works of Oliver J. Corbett. Among other things, this American artist was notable for his painting with the trends of the times. The result of the beautiful oil painting is one of provoking imagery and emotion, rather than painting his subject in a more technical way. With joyful colors, this piece is filled with bold brushstrokes and impressive marks. This painting is signed lower right and it comes housed in a beautiful wood frame ready to be displayed with hanging wire on verso. Art measures 24 x 32 inches Framed measures 27.5 x 35.5 inches Oliver J. Corbett was born in Springfield Ohio in 1886. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Philadelphia School of Industrial Arts. One of his mentors, John Eliot Jenkins had learned from the master, Claude Monet. Oliver was a painter and a muralist. He made his home in Springfield Mo in 1921 and had several “one-man” shows, including ones at the Springfield Art Museum. One of his paintings was presented to President Harry S. Truman during his visit to Springfield Mo in 1952. He was instrumental in the formation of the Ozarks Artists Association. He served as tutor, mentor and teacher to many artists in the area. He is best known for his oil paintings of the Ozarks landscapes; features often included trees, rivers, hillsides and barns. He captured the outdoors and woodlands with color and light. PROVENANCE: Estate of a Private collection Monrovia, California; Lilac Gallery Collection. The piece will be stamped from Lilac Gallery on its verso.
