In ‘October Opus’ Lee Tiller has used a rich and playful palette of bright colours, ranging from deep greens and violets to bright yellows, reds, ultramarines, cobalt blues and pinks. It is a fanfare to the splendour and glory of autumn. It positively calls for the viewer’s attention! Lee Tiller paints in the same tradition as the original French impressionists, painting with an immediacy that recreates the sensation of experiencing a moment in time and place. Hidden with the broken brushstrokes are colours that often surprise and confound, yet viewed as a whole, form a harmonious effect similar to musical expression. This painting is a fanfare. Having developed a reputation for painting nature and the effects of light, Lee’s work has often been mentioned alongside the works of the original French Impressionists, employing broken colour to create beautiful chromatic harmonies. Like Monet and Pissarro, Tiller reveals as much with colour within the shadows as you would expect to find in the full radiance of reflected sunlight. ‘October Opus’ will make a wonderful and attention grabbing centre piece for any room.
