About the Item
This piece, "By the River" by Miguel Peidro is an 24x39 original oil painting on canvas. This painting depicts a gently flowing river in peak autumn season, with bright orange an red foliage on the surrounding trees. Brilliant hues of yellows and reds flash their showy colors and reflect in the water below. Miguel's captivating compositions allow the viewer to step right into these magical landscapes. Finished in a bold traditional black frame with a gold lip inlay.
About the artist:
Miguel Peidro comes from Alcoy, Alicante, Spain, where he received artistic training at a private studio alongside well known Spanish Masters such as Vicente Moya, Alex Alemany, and Juan Ferri. He possesses an innate sensibility and awareness towards nature that clearly resonates in his work. Upon viewing Peidro’s landscapes, one cannot help but get caught up in his quiet and meditative landscapes. His choice of panoramic format welcomes the viewer to partake in his vision. Peidro says, “My passion for both painting and nature are mixed within myself. This is the reason I paint landscapes. I find much inspiration in taking nature walks during my travels throughout Europe.” His paintings are vistas for his viewers, an escape from the city life and a dwelling in which they can connect with the power of nature.
Art critic Josep Cadena says of Miguel Peidro’s works, “[In] order to begin, he must first feel the poetic tremor of the sun’s rays passing through the tree branches, giving diversity of tones to each leaf. Or it is necessity to feel the spiritual connection with the sea, thanks to the constant coming and going of the waves. Or to capture, with each step, without ceasing to walk, the light kiss of the winds that awakes with each day… When he reaches this point in his works, it is when he best fulfills his mission as a painter, since he makes us participants of what he wanted to discover, which helps us achieve a more feasible way of looking at the world.”

This painting depicts a neck-and-neck race between the two giants off the coast of Dover, England. Sailors in their white and blue uniforms can be seen on the deck of each boat. They are tying ropes down or steering the rudder, trying to get the upper hand on their opponent's vessel. (American, born England, 1779-1851)
Winter Landscape, Pennsylvania
Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches
FRAMED: 27 x 33 inches (approx.)
Thomas Birch was born in Warwickshire, England, son of the enamel and miniature painter William Russell Birch (1755-1834). He and his father settled in Philadelphia in 1794 and produced popular sets of engravings that documented the city's growth such as The City of Philadelphia (1800) and Country Seats (1808). Thomas Birch began to paint portraits around 1806, and soon gravitated to the subjects that made him famous, landscapes, winter scenes, and marine scenes.
Birch also painted numerous winter scenes throughout his career, perhaps influenced by the popularity of sleighing and skating in Philadelphia. His landscapes represented the more rustic tradition of English painting and although the subject matter was either the Pennsylvania of New Jersey countryside, Birch’s imagination was oriented toward seventeenth century Dutch painting as he was influenced by artists Jan van Goyen and Salomon van Ruysdael.
Birch frequently exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Artists’ Fund Society, formed in 1835. His art was influential in the later development of the Hudson River School of painting and the style of romantic realism...
