Dates: Unknown
Signature/Date/Other: Lower left hand corner. (Signature is hard to read – very unique and stylistic)
Nationality: German – If Kurt Vogler….
Subject or Title: "Early spring in Teufelsmoor, Close to Worpswede" (We had someone translate!)
Beautiful country scene with water, road, solitary typical tree for that area and a distant town way in the background.
Size/Sight: 30"x22"
Frame: 35"x27" A newer frame is suspected. Painting might have been larger in the past.
Media: Oil on Canvas
Condition: No Known Issues - bright and displays well and ready to hang.
Comments/Other: The piece of paper that was attached to this piece indicates that the artist is K. Vogler and has his biography. The signature on the painting is very distinctive, but not sure if the signature is the artist noted on the paper description. Fancy signature is difficult to make out and in looking at signed Kurt Vogler pieces, the signature can be read, though there are a number of long straight lines in the signature. I believe this is better than the typical Vogler pieces seen – so could be another arist. Whoever did this piece, it is a wonderful European scene with a city in the distance, an overcast sky, pink highlights on the water, bright greens scattered throughout. On the back of the painting, it seems to have been numbered as many artists do (for their records) and the translation is: "Early spring in Teufelsmoor, Close to Worpswede"
This was purchased decades ago when seen in the area of Old Quebec City. It was then shipped down into the U.S. Admired for decades, it is now available for others to appreciate. Colors are quite varied and bright as can be seen in some of the detail photos.
