About the Artist: Jon Blanchette (1908-1987) was born in Somerset, England, and moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1918. From a young age, Blanchette showed a passion for art, studying at the Pittsburgh Art Institute. In 1932, he moved to Los Angeles, where he worked for Fox Studios, creating architectural designs, stage sets, and interior decorations. In 1948, he left commercial art to focus on fine painting, settling in Aptos, California, where he painted and taught private lessons. Throughout his career, Blanchette became known for his romantic realism, working in various mediums, including oil painting, pen & ink, watercolor, and silk screen. He held workshops in Mendocino from 1965 to 1975 and passed away in Aptos on July 3, 1987. This painting is a wonderful example of Blanchette's ability to capture the beauty of California’s rural landscapes with a nostalgic, realist touch.

About the Artist: Marjorie Bell Chambers (also known as Marjorie Bell) was born in New York in 1923 and became a significant figure in both the arts and social activism. Chambers moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in the 1940s, where she raised her family and worked as a substitute teacher while her husband, physicist William H. Chambers, worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Chambers had a distinguished career in education and women's advocacy. She earned a PhD in History and Political Science from the University of New Mexico in 1974, later serving as a faculty member and dean at various institutions, including the University of Denver’s Colorado Women's College.
