John Phillip Osborne
The Mill, First Slaughter, original impressionist English landscape

About the Item

Known for it's timeless charm, the quaint Cotswolds of England are what dreams are made of. First Slaughter, Upper and Lower Slaughter adjacent to Bourton-on-the-Water are such places! The Eye Brook weaves through the Slaughters, affectionately known as "the Slaughter;" the name was derived from the local marsh rather than what one might otherwise expect! This original impressionist landscape exemplifies the historical importance of the mill in these hamlets as well as the warm and inviting feeling of the region of Cotswolds, England. Also exemplifying the English countryside in this original impressionist landscape are the thatched rooves, architecture, rugged terraine and locals lingering, all seemingly frozen in time! Legendary artist John Phillip Osborne, applying many of the principles of the Barbizon school of art painters as well as classic impressionism, was the leading instructor of the highly regarded Ridgewood Art Institute of New Jersey for more than thirty four years. Osborne taught a generation of his students to go beyond the obvious in portraying their subject matter in a composition striving to capture the genuine overall feeling of the moment. He had graduated with honors from Pratt Institute of NYC and then continued his studies at the Art Students League, also of NYC. Original Osborne oil paintings have been exhibited in United States Embassies in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America as well as in coveted venues across the United States. A recipient of numerous awards, Osborne's highest personal honor was the "Artist in Special Tribute" and the "Gold Medal of Honor" presented to him by the Hudson Valley Art Association. The landscape is framed in a new custom made antique silver frame with subtle distress lines throughout.

The crew and guests on the schooners, smaller sailboats and dinghy become absorbed in the culmination of their day's journey and the journeys of the passengers in the other remaining boats as they navigate their boats with safe passage to their home dock destination. Baitfish, original 34x34 figurative marine landscape
Located in Spring Lake, NJ
She grew up summering at the beach, hanging around with the seagulls as her parents watched her from underneath their striped beach umbrella, not far back in the sand from the lifeguard's chair. A budding student of the ocean, she does not hesitate to challenge the seagulls as they dive into the surf for their next meal . . . the baitfish! Her feet are solidly planted in the ocean floor as the undertow grabs her and the baitfish with each wave, in this original, figurative, marine landscape. The turquoise and kelly green waters are radiant as the white tide plays off of the seagulls. Adding to that is the tension and excitement created by the bright, midday light, touches of impressionist's impasto paint application and abstractions of sections of the tide. Noted artist Joseph Sundwall...

The Seine at the Louvre. Oil on canvas, 50 x 65 cm Serge Mendjisky was born in 1929 in Paris. His father, Maurice Mendjisky, was a painter from the School of Paris, this is how Serge became acquainted with the world of arts since childhood. After completing his studies at the School of Fine Arts of Paris, he soon became a recognized artist and his work was exposed in Europe, Japan and the United States. Through Serge Mendjisky's creativeness, Broadway becomes an explosion of colored lights...
