The Green House, Surreal Classic Architecture with Italian Cypress Trees

"Uscita" takes Inspiration from ancient Italian frescos originally found at the Villa di Livia outside of Rome. The trompe l'oeil frescos were from a subterranean room used for dining. The lush gardens gave the dinner guests the illusion of dining alfresco. Here Pylant took particular notice of the flora and fauna painted over 2000 years ago only to discover they were species that were also present at her then North Carolina studio. The artist adds an architectural element to the gardenscape to suggest a portal from the past into the present. This exploration of the ancient world and its connection to the present is a central theme running through Pylant's work. Carol S. The artist is a master at storytelling. He sets the stage for the viewer to bring the events to a particular scene. Here, the artist has set two wine glasses, napkins and a small plate of desserts on a geometrically patterned table cloth, draping so it almost appears to be falling over the frame. The viewer is required to ask the questions about the scene but the answers may only lie in their own imagination. The painting, which is painted on canvas then mounted to a panel, is framed in a simple wooden frame measuring 21 x 30 inches. Despite the good intentions of critical theorists questioning the validity of the canon, paintings of the old masters on the walls of museums like the Met, the Louvre, Rijks museum still have a certain cache. A sweeping landscape of Rapid City, South Dakota. Lights glow against a dark atmosphere filled with cliffs and mountains. Artist Bio Stephen Hannock's formal artistic training began at Bowdoin and led him to participate in the Twelve College Exchange, where at Smith College he came under the influence of Leonard Baskin, the renowned sculptor, illustrator, printmaker, and graphic artist. Hannock is deeply influenced by the great American landscape painters of the nineteenth century, especially Thomas Cole, whose sweeping vistas of rugged Eastern terrain were imbued with a sense of the romantic and the sublime.
