A masterful oil painting depicting a view of Paris at twilight. This piece is a pertinent example of the works produced during the 20th Century by the artist with use of beautiful colors and layers of paint, giving this work such a stunning richness. Here you see the flower vendor walking down the street amongst the traffic of the horse and carriages as figures walk along the side walks in front of the storefront view of a cafe, located on a Paris avenue. The lights from the city shine as you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. This work is signed by the artist lower left and comes housed in a robust ornate giltwood gold tone frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Jacques Deveau was a French post-war contemporary artist born in 1937 and was active in France during the 20th Century. As an impressionist painter, he was known for his detailed works depicting scenes from daily life; notably works of simple life by the garden or beach often depicting beautiful ladies and children. His rich, impasto technique and use of light and color capture scenes of tranquil beauty and the joy of life. Deveau’s work was also known for his beach scenes and landscapes, and his paintings have been represented by many prominent galleries and appear in private collections worldwide.

Modest Huys (25 October 1874, in Zulte – 30 January 1932, in Zulte) was a Flemish impressionist and luminist painter, who is regarded as one of the greatest Belgian painters of the 20th century.
From a young age, Modest Huys worked in his father's painting and decorating business and later studied at the "Gentse Nijverheidschool" (Ghent Industrial School). In 1891 or 1892, he came into contact with Emile Claus, who encouraged his artistic inclinations. In 1900, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts where his teachers were Eugène Joors and Frans Van Leemputten but he never completed his studies. It was about this time that he became lifelong friends with the author Stijn Streuvels.
In 1902, he debuted at the Sint-Lucasgilde in Kortrijk and began to exhibit more widely. He spent time in Meetjesland, painting landscapes. From 1905, he participated in the exhibitions of Vie et Lumière...
