Grégoire Mathias
"Saint Front, Périgueux II" by Grégoire Mathias, Cubist French Landmark Painting

About the Item

Cathédrale Saint Front II Acrylic on Canvas 62 x 65 cm Cathédrale Saint Front II by Grégoire Mathias is a bold and intricate depiction of the iconic Cathédrale Saint Front in Périgueux, France. This second iteration in Mathias’s series of architectural works captures the cathedral's domes, towers, and arches through a striking cubist perspective. The interplay of geometric shapes and warm, earthy tones evokes both the timeless majesty of the landmark and the artist’s modern vision. The composition is layered with movement and texture, from the rich ochres to the subtle greys and blues of the sky, creating a dynamic portrayal of light and form. Mathias’s interpretation celebrates the architectural grandeur of this historic French cathedral while offering a fresh perspective on its cultural and artistic significance. Perfect For: Collectors of architectural art, enthusiasts of French landmarks, and admirers of cubist-inspired depictions of iconic cultural heritage. Cathédrale Saint Front II makes an excellent addition to both contemporary collections and spaces seeking works of historical resonance. About the Artist: Grégoire Mathias, graduate of the National School of Fine Arts in Paris (ENSBA - École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts), is exhibiting his work at Sotheby's gallery in Périgueux, as well as in numerous galleries across Paris, New York, and Dublin. Mathias is the creator of diachronic cubism, an unexplored branch of cubism that depicts landscapes, interiors, everyday life scenes, and, most notably, the concept of time itself. This unique style is characterized by the deconstruction of subjects and light over specific periods of time. Since 2020, he has been designing UN posters through the World Federation for the United Nations Associations (WFUNA), becoming the first French artist to contribute to the organization after Picasso, Chagall, Miró, and Vasarely.
