Figures Strolling In European Street Scene Distant Church Steeple Oil

20TH CENTURY

About the Item

Street Scene signed by Fanch Lel (French b. 1930) 99' inscribed verso size: 12 x 17 inches oil painting on board, unframed condition: the painting is in very good condition. It has previously been stored in the artists studio. Provenance: all the paintings we have for sale by this artist have come from the artists estate and have had no previous owners at all. Description: This painting captures a quaint street scene in what appears to be a small European town. In the foreground, a figure—likely a parent—walks hand-in-hand with a child down a cobblestone street. The scene is dotted with other townsfolk, including a woman standing by the entrance of a building. In the distance, a tall, pointed church steeple rises above the rooftops, acting as a focal point in the composition. The artist uses a muted yet warm color palette of purples, browns, and yellows, with occasional splashes of brighter colors, such as the child's clothing. The impressionistic style emphasizes mood and atmosphere over detail, with the brushstrokes giving the scene a soft, almost dreamlike quality. The painting evokes a sense of everyday life in a peaceful, close-knit town. We are pleased to offer a significant collection of original works by Fanch Lel, a celebrated Breton artist known for his captivating depictions of Brittany’s landscapes, markets, and traditional life.
