This painting is inspired by the long shadows cast on the pavement by the shoppers on a winters day. During Lock Down and the months that followed the Artists was particularly interested in the changing feel of the City Streets. Having frequently photographed and painted the streets of Cheltenham, the sudden quiet was very striking, with a strange sense of loneliness. There are contrasting tones of blue and pink, and the patches of yellow and pink leaves lead your eye around the picture. Eleanor Woolley was born in the Channel Island of Jersey, and moved to Gloucestershire where she was drawn to the outdoors, always taking walks in the landscape. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. She learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture Eleanor Studied Furniture making and worked as a Cabinet Maker before returning to fine art painting. Her inspiration is taken from her surroundings, experimenting with colour and form. Her paintings are vibrant, painted Al Fresco and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Eleanor is influenced by the work of Painter Frank Brangwyn, and his representations of the human form. Leading to her passion to paint people in their working environments. It is a documentation of the everyday that is often missed. Capturing the concentration of a Sushi Chef, or a Barista pouring coffee, the banter between workmates and the glances of intimacy. Eleanor’s depiction of shoppers on the high street explores the play of shadow and light when the sun leaves its long shadows on the ground. The faces of these people are blurred as the light bleaches their features. There is a suggestion of loneliness, in this age where identity has become so important yet these faceless individuals are almost unaware of each other. anonymous figures, busy in their solitude, their shadows touching each other as they rush by. Eleanor spent time with Giffords Circus where she was able to watch the rapport between performers backstage. Sketching and photographing to develop her compositions, she works quickly with bight colours to depict the human form with large brushstrokes. The speed and control of the brush having such a large effect on the spirit of the painting. Often foregrounds merge into the background as she captures the movement of the figure, as the performers prepare before the intensity of the show. Eleanor still lives in her childhood home in Gloucestershire surrounded by the countryside and people she loves to paint.

"The Regatta" Oil painting of two men at boat race, Impressionism, Lake front
Located in Edgartown, MA
Since summer 2004, I have lived in southern Italy, in the region of Puglia, the province of Bari, in a town called Altamura. A two-week restoration project of the Jesce Masseria brought me here. My plan after that was to set up an atelier in Paris and spend my days painting the pretty and elongated noses of the Parisians. Two weeks was all I planned to be in Altamura. I am drawn like love to this countryside where I live now. Olive trees are woven in the ochre-colored hills that extend from Altamura. The vista is a tapestry of silver and saffron threads, a palette of the subtle hues of a faded fresco. The air is perfumed by tomatoes drying in the sun and the fermenting juices pressed from the fleshy grapes. Underneath a lapis blue sky, the prehistoric looking "ferula" plant unfolds on the plains like a congregation of nomads crossing a desert. I sense this countryside has fought to survive. The land is raw, brutally honest, and as passionate as the works of Van Gogh. The people of Altamura are tireless workers and the gatekeepers of traditions. I am drawn to their vitality and passionate spirit. I am intrigued by their dark ebony eyes, antique profiles, beautifully weathered skin and stone chiseled hands. A subtle, caramel color saturates my canvases as I paint the very old and the very young - Il Viaggio dela Vita! My mother's family emigrated from northern Italy in the early nineteen hundreds. When they arrived in Canada, it took only three generations for my family's stories to fade and language to be lost. Here, I am discovering the soil that seeded my family. My Nonna (grandmother) would be so pleased to know that I am happy here...

He was a close friend of Carlos Vierra, Gerald Cassidy, Kenneth Chapman, Sheldon Parsons and most of the other famous artists who assembled in the New Mexican capital during the first half of this century. Born in Carson City, Nevada, Rollins was raised in California and attended the San Francisco School of Design where he studied under Virgil Williams. At the completion of his studies, he was awarded the Avery Gold Medal and made Assistant Director of the school. Following his marriage in 1887, he and his wife settled in San Diego, and it was during this period that Rollins became interested in the Indian as subject matter. In search of material, Rollins, his wife, and their two daughters, Ramona and Ruth, traveled through every Western state from the Mexican to the Canadian borders. While in Montana, Rollins painted a portrait of Calamity Jane...
