Painted Plein air From the Rollrights is a view from the Whispering Knights, one of the collections of Stoned found at Rollright in the Cotswold. This is an area steeped in myth and intrigue, with many legends around the collections of stones found there. The Whispering Knight were said to have been turned to Stone by a witch, whilst plotting against their King. Professional Artist 2010 Professional Cabinet Maker from 2006-2012 Cabinet Making and Furniture Restoration City and Guilds 2004-2005. BA Hons Sculpture, Bretton Hall, Leeds University 1998-2001. Art Foundation Pitville Cheltenham 1997. Eleanor Woolley was born in the Channel Island of Jersey, and moved to Gloucestershire where she was drawn to the outdoors, always taking walks in the landscape. Her first true love for painting came from an inspirational Art teacher at Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls. During this period she was fortunate enough to work under Mary Fedden in her studio and Portrait Sculptor Peter Lambda with whom she further developed her technique and composition. She learnt to paint using classic oil painting techniques, and was drawn to the figure from early life drawing lessons. After gaining her BA Hons in Sculpture Eleanor Studied Furniture making and worked as a Cabinet Maker before returning to fine art painting. Her inspiration is taken from her surroundings, experimenting with colour and form. Her paintings are vibrant, painted Al Fresco and finished in the studio. Starting with bold outlines, many layers of paint are used to create the depth of colour. Eleanor is influenced by the work of Painter Frank Brangwyn, and his representations of the human form. Leading to her passion to paint people in their working environments. It is a documentation of the everyday that is often missed. Capturing the concentration of a Sushi Chef, or a Barista pouring coffee, the banter between workmates and the glances of intimacy. Eleanor’s depiction of shoppers on the high street explores the play of shadow and light when the sun leaves its long shadows on the ground. The faces of these people are blurred as the light bleaches their features. There is a suggestion of loneliness, in this age where identity has become so important yet these faceless individuals are almost unaware of each other. anonymous figures, busy in their solitude, their shadows touching each other as they rush by. Eleanor spent time with Giffords Circus where she was able to watch the rapport between performers backstage. Sketching and photographing to develop her compositions, she works quickly with bight colours to depict the human form with large brushstrokes. The speed and control of the brush having such a large effect on the spirit of the painting. Often foregrounds merge into the background as she captures the movement of the figure, as the performers prepare before the intensity of the show. Eleanor still lives in her childhood home in Gloucestershire surrounded by the countryside and people she loves to paint.

Potato Barn (Impressionist Rural Landscape, Sun Dappled Country Road on a Farm)
By Harry Orlyk
Located in Hudson, NY
Impressionist style en plein air landscape painting on linen of a sun dappled dirt road leading to a barn #5963 Potato Barn, 2022 painted by Harry Orlyk oil on linen, ready to hang as is 14 x 14.5 inches Harry Orlyk is celebrated for his ability to capture rural country landscapes with impressionistic brushstrokes and bright color palettes. Painting daily, the artist drives throughout the upstate New York, stopping to observe and paint 'en plain air' whenever and wherever a landscape strikes him. This painting is a perfect example of Orlyk's impressionistic aesthetic. Here, the artist captures a winding dirt road leading to an old potato barn, likely sited on a neighbor's farm close to the artist's home. A wonderful blend of luscious color is layered to create the foreground. The application of paint and color feel effortless, while the balance of the composition suggests the experience that comes from a lifetime of painting plein air and completely in the moment. Orlyk surrounds to teh natural beauty, its climate, and truly embodies the romantic truth of his beloved rural landscape. About the artist: Harry Orlyk was born in Troy, New York in 1947. In 1971 after graduating college, he went on to graduate school at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln . Over the next nine years, he was influenced by several Nebraskan artists. "Still-life painter Robin Smith taught me how to use paint without turpentine - to paint from the tube." He also admits the influence of photographer Lawrence McFarland who taught him what spiritual space was, and how to emphasize it. Lastly he credits well-known Lincoln painter Keith Jacobshagen...
