Darius Yektai
Alizarin Lilies

2022

About the Item

A representational abstract painting of a lily pond. Airy washes of alizarin paint, built up more opaquely in areas, creates the background of this piece. Epoxy resin covers the alizarin "water", creating a glossy finish. Other this, branches, lily pads and waterlilies have been painted in crisp vivid gold and contrasting green paint, some touches of impasto alizarine add dimension to the scene. The visual effect is very rich and warm, the resin reflecting the changing light throughout the day. This painting is a nod to the master Claude Monet's famous "Waterlily" paintings, while still bringing something entirely new and modern to this commonly painted subject. Unframed dimensions - 24 x 36 inches Framed dimensions - 25.5 x 37.5 inches Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own. Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole. "Green Lilies, Magenta Barn" 2022 oil and resin painting, abstract landscape
By Darius Yektai
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
In this affecting composition, Yektai combines the dynamism of the abstract expressionist style with the soft, meditative qualities of Monet's waterlilies. Yektai first paints the canvas with loose strokes of rich deep greens. A pinkish red abstract form takes center stage - ang highlights of yellow flank the edges. Then he pours a clear-grade liquid resin onto the painted canvas and lets it harden into a glassy surface. Finally, he uses linear brushstrokes connecting colors into forms, in the typical impressionist style. Yektai varies the volume in which he applies paint, from thin and dry to sopping wet and thick. This process allows for a more three-dimensional experience of the painting. One can see through layers which build-up to create the flurry of brushstrokes. The reflective surface makes space for the viewer to see themselves in the painting, looking back at them. A contemporary notion. Sky VIII - Blue Abstract Landscape Oil Painting on Canvas
By Bettina Mauel
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Bettina Mauel expresses dynamism and sensuality in her paintings: “I paint what I experience,” she articulates. “This includes landscapes, flowers, and people in motion, capturing them at a particular moment in time.” Her artworks often incorporate a sophisticated and vibrant sense of movement. The secret bond that connects everything is a combination of appearance and perception, which Mauel has devoted herself to studying during her artistic career. Whether the subject be dancers, cityscapes, landscapes, or pure expression, Mauel has exemplified herself as an expert in the acute perception of ephemeral moments. This original landscape painting immerses the viewer into the serene world of a masterful portrayal of nature's greens and sky's blues. Layers of carefully applied hues evoke the tranquility of trees, and the sun's gentle embrace in abstract form. This artwork seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with nature's beauty, embodying the allure of modern landscapes. The canvas features a delicate fusion of emerald green, forest green, and accents of blue and white, creating a sophisticated ambiance. Delicate textured layers add depth, making it perfect for modern, nature-inspired decor. Crafted in oil on canvas, this original artwork by Bettina Mauel showcases her exceptional skill, revered by art enthusiasts worldwide. This original artwork measures 24 inches high by 40 inches wide. Mauel created this one-of-a-kind painting using layered oil paint on linen canvas with a balanced subtlety. It is signed and dated by the artist on the back. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Bettina Mauel was born 1959 in Wuppertal, Germany. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Gerhard Richter, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In 1984 Mauel was asked by the city of Wuppertal, Germany to paint scenes of the dance theater of Pina Bausch. This had a major influence on the selection of themes in her imagery. Rather than focusing on spectacular poses, she pays acute attention to the spontaneous movements in between, capturing a resonating rush of color and form. These impromptu paintings combine a long tradition of Eastern scroll painting, expressionist sketching, and fashion illustration. She lives and works as a lecturer in painting and artist in Cologne, Germany. Bettina Mauel has presented her work in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe, North America, and Asia and her art has been acquired by many notable public institutions.
