André Bourrie
Winter Solstice: pointillist impressionist Winterscape snow landscape painting

ca 1970

About the Item

Like every true master painter, André Bourrie had a unique, distinctive style - an inimitable blend of neo-impressionism and pointillism which, while drawing on traditions, is radically new. His work radiates light. Bourrié, the distinguished maritime and landscape artist, is one of France’s foremost contemporary masters. Bearing the distinction of official Painter for the French Navy, he has received innumerable awards, such as the Gold Medal of the prestigious “Salon de la Marine” and the Gold Medal of the “Salon des Artistes Français”. Born in Montpellier, France in 1936, André Bourrié lost his parents at an early age. He came to live with an uncle who, finding the child “sullen and unsociable”, placed him in an orphanage. The harshness of his youth was probably critical in Bourrié’s coming of age and possibly the most important influence in his becoming an artist. As a young boy without parental security and guidance, he found solace and joy in colors, light, textures, and forms. It is not a coincidence that he became a self-taught artist with such a melancholic start in life. In 1978 obtained an exclusive contract with the Wally Findlay gallery in New York, which allowed him to hold numerous exhibitions in France and the United States and thus share his personal and refined vision of the world. Today, André Bourrié is renowned for his magnificent paintings of the French countryside. His works are acclaimed for their brilliant use of white light and a rich, iridescent palette. His paintings are in private and institutional collections through out the world, including France, Japan, The United States and beyond. Measuring 46 x 55 cm for the canvas alone, oil oil on canvas is presented in a frame by Paris master framers Delf.

Japan Japanese Garden by French naive outsider folk art primitive artist, 1975
Located in Norwich, GB
A perfect painting for lovers of Japan and those of primitive/naive outside art. It is a work by an internatoanlly noted extraordinary artist with an extraordinary life. Maurice LOIRAND (1922-2008) is born into a working class family in Brittany, near the Atlantic coast coast in France. He starts working as a skilled labourer in the shipyards aged 15. Aged 20, when the Nazis start to occupy the country, he joins the Resistance movement, where he meets and befriends thinkers, painters and poets. He is thus introduced to an artistic and intellectual universe far removed from the world of his origins. Loirand finds himself drawn to art, and soon dedicates all his free time to learn how to paint. Completely self taught, he soon begins to exhibit his pictures alongside high level artists. He moves to Paris in the 1950s, and - although still working as a technician - paints all night. He finally becomes a full time artist in 1968. International travel and a multitude of exhibitions follow. He exhibits in Brazil, Argentina, and with Jean Tiroche Gallery in New York, among others. His work is now shown alongside works by Leger, Matisse and Picasso. The Collector's Guild New York Ltd commissions Maurice Loirand for several works of lithographic art. Loirand discovers Japan in the early 1970s, and decides to stay for 18 years. He marries Kazué SHIMOTORI, a Japanese poet...

Introducing "Scandinavian Winter Landscape, 1907" a mesmerizing painting by the artist Arthur Percy Carlsson, later known as Arthur C:son Percy (1886-1976). Born in Vickleby, Öland, Percy's artistic journey was one defined by unwavering determination and exceptional talent. This landscape painting presents a winter landscape, likely set during the early spring season. The canvas portrays a vast, snow-filled meadow, blanketed in pristine white. Above, the sky comes alive in a captivating pointillist style, with hues of blue, turquoise, and yellow forming delicate, scattered dots, while small clouds grace the horizon.
