Alexa Roscoe ,studied at Falmouth College of Arts 2000-2003, where she specialised in printed textile design and met her husband. After graduating Alexa moved to London where she worked as a freelance designer for a printed textile company. Alexa Roscoe now lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and two children. They live amongst fields and trees which is a constant inspiration for the Alexa. Alexa Roscoe says of her works: I am drawn to painting the landscapes around me, enjoying the colours in nature and how the colours change through the seasons. I love seeing new ideas for paintings as I drive through the countryside, and different compositions on my walks. I love to watch how the landscape changes through the seasons. Each season bringing its own beauty and colours. In my most recent work I have been enjoying the silhouettes of the leafless trees standing against the different tones of greys and greens. Even winter is inspirational! I have a passion for colour and love to notice the way they compliment each other and how they sit together in nature. When I am absorbed in a painting working intensely with colour I start to notice all the colours all around me in a different way. How the roads can have a purple look to them and how the hedges have so many colours in them. I even enjoy those great winter days. Noticing the beautiful tones of greys and how they sit next to the golden autumnal colours and green fields. I love using oil paints, how they are so versatile. Sometimes I like to layer the paint creating a striking flat finish. In contrast to this I also like to create works with energetic bold brushstrokes. Sometimes combining both of these techniques. The rich colours and bold brush strokes create depth and interest to my paintings. I have always enjoyed and have been inspired by colourists such as Henri Matisse, Hockney and Bonnard. The way they see and express colour. I feel and know that working with colour brings joy and if we can bring colour into our lives we also bring joy.

Migration Emerald, Original Painting, Clouds, Dreamy, Greens, Blues, Yellows
Located in Deddington, GB
The underpainting is done with watercolour. This is really tricky for few reasons. It took me a considerable amount of time to work out the canvas maker that is suitable for the effect. For the paint to give me these beautiful semi translucent washes, the cotton has to be the right grain and correctly primed. The underpainting takes very little room for mistake and even now sometimes I scrap the canvas and start all over. There is very special fast drying medium used to cover delicate layers with the right amount of thin oil paint and to make the pigment more fade resistant and prevent from any yellowing. This stage is repeated many times to build the satisfactory depth. I then go with a tiny brush to go over the edges and borders, adding definition with acrylic. Final two - the signature, usually on the front though some paintings I leave unsigned on the front till they are sold, so the buyer can cast his/her wish to see my surname on the front or back of the artwork The paper planes connected a thin thread which they tied up to each other or the clouds. S t o r y The Migration collection is intend to capture the subject of departure focusing on positive effects of separation, leaving, breaking ties. The paper airplane is a faceless portrait...
