About the Item
Hawaii Island clouds form a dramatic skyscape. The sky
occupies the majority of the canvas, with voluminous clouds creating
striking contrast between light and shadow. The top portion of the sky is
filled with soft white clouds tinged with light hues of blue, suggesting
sunlight is filtering through. Below, darker clouds with purplish-grey
tones suggest an impending storm or the receding tumult of one. There is a
clear division in the clouds, hinting of a struggle between the serene and
the tempestuous.
Below the imposing sky, lies a bleak landscape. The minimalistic detail
enhances the sense of open space. A single, solitary tree stands resilient
in the midst of this expanse, providing a focal point on the ground and
emphasizing the vastness of the sky above. The contrast of the dark tree
against the lighter horizon also echoes the play of light and dark in the
clouds above, tying the composition together. The work represents the
sublime in nature, invoking emotions of awe and the sense of the
overwhelming power of the natural world.
This original painting is created in oil on 16 inch by 16 inch gallery
wrapped linen, on 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers. The edges are hand painted,
providing a finished look. Included is a floating black wood frame, wired
with finger friendly wire, and ready to hang.
