Untitled 018 [Remains of the Remains 018] - Contemporary Art, Abstract, Black

2019

About the Item

Untitled 018 [Remains of the Remains 018], 2019 oil on canvas 78 47/64 H x 59 1/16 W in. 200 H x 150 W cm The large-sized paintings, signed by Zsolt Berszán, address the subject of death in terms of the remains of decaying bodies. The surface of the canvas is treated as a battlefield indicating the idea of earth, mud, muck, and through which bodies or pieces of crushed, abandoned and decomposing bodies could be glimpsed. The artist suggests the body, hardly perceptible in the economy of drawing, as a macabre game of twists, writhing, arches and torn fragments. It is a material representation of the remains of an absent body. Zsolt Berszán is not interested in the individual himself, but in the human remains that become subjects in themselves. The representation of the fragments, the truncated bodies, of the remains, draw traces interpreted in this context, not solely as organic materials, but also as material forms testifying to the a priori existence of those people. This new line of paintings could also be, perceived as a personal archive of images to contextualize the dissolution of the human body. These vital remnants arise from the relationship between appearance and disappearance; they are a kind of phantom traces of evidence of a past existence, which could also be, interpreted as the beginning of a new process. The body as an environment of memory makes it possible to experience time in a loop by relating the overlap and interaction of multiple temporalities, past experiences and, meanings imbued with new ones.

Cornwall - Textural Abstract Boho Original Oil Painting
By Susan Washington
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Susan Washington seamlessly blends modern textiles, delicate threads, and captivating vintage pattern paper to create her mesmerizing mixed-media, abstract collage works. Through her masterful technique, she produces surfaces that are richly layered with textures and adorned with expressive line work, resulting in artworks that are both visually stimulating and aesthetically satisfying. Drawing inspiration from the early Synthetic Cubists, Abstract Expressionists, and the esteemed St. Ives School of Painters, she pushes the boundaries of her craft, forging a distinct artistic path that is both innovative and thought-provoking. This one-of-a-kind 48-inch tall by 36-inch wide oil artwork on canvas is wired and ready to hang. It bears the artist's signature on the front and back and comes with a certificate of authenticity from the art gallery. Free delivery is available for those in the local Los Angeles area, and affordable worldwide shipping is available for US and international art collectors. Hailing from the vibrant artistic hub of Brooklyn, Susan Washington was raised in a creative family that fostered her innate talent from a young age. At the tender age of seven, her Japanese godmother imparted to her the ancient art of sumi ink painting, igniting a lifelong passion for art and fashion. With a solid foundation rooted in both disciplines, Washington honed her skills within the bustling fashion industry of New York City for over 15 years before finding her home in the serene Pocono Mountains. “My recent work continues the exploration of shapes that originate in tailoring pattern pieces,” says Washington. “My works over time have become more structural in their compositions. I utilize textile cutouts that have been previously sewn and/or painted. I allow threads and frayed edges to act as ‘painterly’ gestures within a loose grid of contrasting shapes that jostle for position across the canvas. I enjoy the tensions where shapes meet and create negative space or where color overlaps and interacts.” Washington's modernist approach to Cubist-inspired artworks has gained international recognition for asymmetrical geometric elements that combine to form a complex, layered composition. Her artworks have been exhibited and collected internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, and Shanghai.
