ULIVIERO ULIVIERI
Cestello by Night

About the Item

Uliviero Ulivieri - Born in Florence, Italy in 1934, this perennially youthful artist has a sweet and slightly shy aspect. He has absorbed from his city the art of digging deep within himself to bring out the best of his ego. He studied at the Art Institute of Porta Romana and refined his hand and line under the guidance of Pietro Annigoni, the 'painter of Queens.' His palette predominantly features acrylics and china inks. At 17 years old, he was commissioned to paint an oil on canvas of 'Christ' for the Church of San Mommè, in Pistoia (Tuscany). The painting is still displayed and admired by many of the artist's followers. Over the years, Ulivieri felt the need to listen to the voices inside himself and live in the quietness of the Tosco-Emilian Apennines. He frequently takes refuge in the peace of the forest, only interrupted by the sound of the bells of San Mommè. Ulivieri's paintings are pleasing at first sight, with clear-cut colors and shadows that create a sense of transparency and profound poetry. For years, Ulivieri resisted those who wished to launch him into the commercial art market, as it was contrary to his introverted and shy personality that is reflected in his art. Despite his success in occasional national and international exhibitions, he rarely agrees to participate. In 1961, Ulivieri held his first personal and private exhibition at the Popolare University in Pistoia, Italy. Today, Ulivieri's art is a success worldwide, featuring monks, nuns, a boy scout, and other vigilant characters. His acrylics and drawings are born spontaneously, guided by a firm hand that studies the lines while creating. Ulivieri's imagination is the driving force behind his journey called 'Strafantasie.' As a maestro born in the same city as several geniuses such as Michelangelo and Botticelli, Uliviero Ulivieri's imagination is constantly aroused with thoughts and creations. Faustini Arte has held several important national and international exhibitions, but has never been as successful as with Ulivieri. His paintings are part of many private collections around the world, including Australia, Belgium, Dubai, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Shanghai, Singapore, Spain, and the United States. Ulivieri's works are currently exclusively available at Faustini Arte in Florence. There is great anticipation for his art to be showcased in other parts of the world.

My painting is an inquiry. I make images as a way of responding to experiences that are important to me. Experiences that help me to understand why I’m in this world often happens when I am outside in large open spaces. Painted images act as a tool. I respond to the spaces my art suggests. That response is usually non-verbal. I am interested in the experience of non-duality that “getting lost” in big spaces can sometimes produce for me. The paintings have gone through a range of artistic treatments with the recent years seeing a focus on space, light, textures, atmosphere and distance. My landscape paintings are made from memory, not from on-site drawings or photographs. I use memory as a filtering agent to remove non-essential visual elements. When a work is successful, it must have a sense of poetry. There is nothing “new...
