About the Item
"Tania" by Olga Suvorova is an Oil on Canvas painting measuring 42.5x31.5 in. and is a prime colorful example of Russian figurative realism at its finest. Her color pallet and fabric portions help set the mood of the story she is trying to tell. In this painting, a young brunette girl in pink and white sits in a garden room filled with all sorts of flowers including roses and lilies as her siamese cat lays on her lap. The piece is also finished off in a beautiful silver frame that accents the blue and pink flowers of the painting itself. The great works of Olga Suvorova (Russian, b. 1966) center upon the commedia dell’arte, its characters, and themes depicted in a signature style influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites, Gustav Klimt, and traditional Russian icons. Olga Suvorova has created her own style of painting – lifestyle portraits of costumed characters in the interiors of different epochs. Her work is nostalgic for the St. Petersburg “World of Art” movement with its retrospective and love of the 18th century. Her ornate costumes—their silks and velvets, jewels and embroideries—are often the stars of any scene, which she rounds out with musical instruments, flowers, and birds. The result is a lush tapestry, delicate in feeling but full of undeniably boisterous color within a painting.
Suvorova, who comes from a family of artists, studied monumental composition at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts. She is known for her portraiture, both at home in Russia and around the world. Suvorova’s work has been featured in shows in the United States, China, and countries throughout Europe, and she regularly exhibits in Paris and London.
