Murli Cheeroth - Untitled - 36 x 36 inches (unframed size)

Style : Before he settled in Bangalore, Cheeroth lived in many cities, and used his experience as an “outsider” to inform his art. His works are vivid commentaries and observations of cultural structures and identities in society. Often stitching together a collage of jarring imagery, Cheeroth renders his work with neon saturation that bear resemblance more to new media and advertisement, than fine art. While fairly recognizable, the subjects in Cheeroth’s paintings are deformed, distorted, and multi-layered to create overlapping perspectives. “His paintings show influences of both his immediate environment and city life, they are focused on his interest in the physical and psychological aspects of everyday life and human emotions” (Dr. Verena Widorn, ‘Habitus’, Sumukha Art Gallery, Bangalore, 2010).
According to the artist, his working process is “a kind of extraction system, that draws on tiny concerns about urbanization, frenzied globalization and the visual/virtual stimulation therein, and folds and unfolds them into another reality to simplify their characteristics and relationships in order to build a new visual experience that is clear and vivid”.

Born in 1968 in Tellicherry, Kerela, C. Bhagyanath received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (painting) from the College of Fine Arts, Triavandrum, in 1992. Following this, the artist went on to study at the Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Communication in Hyderabad, where he received his Master’s degree in the same subject in 2006.
Some of the solo exhibitions in which Bhagyanath’s works have been exhibited include 'Ventriloquism' at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi, in 2010-2011; 'In Limbo' at Project 88, Mumbai, in 2009; exhibitions at Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi, in 2006; and Kannur in 2004. He has also taken part in several group exhibitions, some of which include 'A. SYCO' at the Viewing Room, Mumbai; 'The Way We Are' at Mon Art Gallery, Kolkata; 'Evidentia' at Gallery Sumukha, Chennai and Bangalore; 'Re-claim/Re-cite/Re-cycle' at Bose Pacia, Kolkata; 'Recycled' at Travancore Palace, New Delhi; 'Metamorphosis: Change and Continuity in Indian Art' at Phyllis Weston-Annie Boiling Gallery, USA; 'The Big Picture' at Welcomart Gallery; Gallery and 'Pastiche' at Chaitanya Art Gallery, Kochi.
