Surrounded by artistic inspiration from a very early age, Kate Salenfriend learned most of her technical skills from her great-grandfather, Stewart Robertson, the registered California portrait painter, who began teaching her while she was still just a toddler. Growing up in the agricultural San Joaquin Valley, Salenfriend developed a deep and lasting connection to the land around her, along with a sensitivity to the time of day, season, and atmosphere. The resulting alchemy from her experiences of the California landscape, her solid connection to the environment around her, and her own artistic point of view, gave rise to her first professional work, the now highly-collected series of Cypress trees, “Order from Chaos.” Completely at home in the Napa Valley, where art and nature abound, Salenfriend’s interpretation of the natural world is complementary to the natural beauty surrounding her. During a trip to Italy, Salenfriend found inspiration in the timeless beauty of the crumbling reliefs of Pompeii, which now inform the sculptural texture and layers of oil paint in each of her works. Salenfriend evokes the glimmering artworks of Austrian symbolist, Gustav Klimt, through the impeccable layers of gold, copper, and silver colored leafing she uses to create her stunning landscapes. The interaction between ambient light and the delicate metal leaf mimic nature’s transitional seasonality, the emotions that confront us when taking in these scenes, and a perpetual sense of motion and progression. The place this painting depicts is a small village Achouffe in the municipality of Houffalize, in Wallonia, Belgium.
It is located in the forested Ardennes region. Situated within the Bastogne district Luxembourg province.
Biography: Asselbergs Alphonse was born on June 19, 1839 in Brussels, Belgium. He was a painter of landscapes and forests. He studied with the master teacher and artist Edouard Huberti from 1863.
After having led a world traveled life as a trader, he returned to the countryside of Belgium in 1867 and stayed in the Tervuren region and spent his time painting landscapes with great artists such as H. Boulenger, E. Huberti, J. Coosemans and Th. Baron.
In 1868, he co-founded the “Societé Libre des Beaux-Arts”.
From 1873 to 1874, he traveled and painted in North Africa with the watercolourist, Arthur Bouvier. It resulted in a number of canvases in the oriental style, but unfortunately without any commercial success. Despite having been shown at numerous exhibitions, they were all still in his studio at the time of his death. After returning from his travels, he lived near the artists’ colony in Genk and made occasional excursions to the forests of Fontainebleu in France.
From 1875 to 1877 he worked in the Barbizon region with students of Rousseau.
In 1877, Asselbergs moved to Brussels. He painted quite actively in the Brussels countryside, in the Ardennes and Campine regions. He had a studio with a round tower, on a street that is now named after him. He also made short trips abroad to France and Italy. During the 1880’s, he held exhibitions at the Salon de Paris. In 1881, receiving a second commission in 1896, he was named Officer in the Order of Leopold: it is the oldest and highest Order of Belgium and is named in honor of its founder the King Leopold...

Anthony Garratt was born in 1979, He lives in South Devon with his young family, and currently works from his studio on the Dartington Estate. He studied at Chelsea College of Art for a Foundation (Dip), and a BA (hons) at Falmouth College of Art.
He has exhibited extensively in public and commercial galleries, including 18 solo shows to date. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections internationally.
