Francesc Gironés (1904-1997) - Surrealist scene - Oil canvas
Oil measures 38x46 cm.
Frame measures 47x55 cm.
Francesc Gironés was a painter from Poblenou about whom little is known, it is believed that he was born in 1904 and died in 1997. He was one of the first to paint the emblematic Torre de les Aigües and his style drifted towards a surreal cubism close to the magical language from Dau to Set, but always very personal.
He had had a studio on Calle Pere IV and shared his pictorial activity with his work designing prints at the neighborhood textile company, Can Ponsa. Due to his wife's illness, he had to leave his studio and since then he painted in his house on Recaredo street (now defunct), in an environment recreated by his young friend, the painter Gonçal Sobré, who considered him a "neighborhood surrealist". ”:“ On Recaredo street, there is a very small apartment and there is a very small and dark room, the low light from the ceiling with a shoe box cardboard hood that shines like a spotlight on a small table and a chair; The rest are all boxes with paints and dyes, and sitting in the usual chair, always wrapped in a housecoat, Mr. Francesc Gironés, the old but young painter who is unknown worldwide, but despite everything, surreal and very surreal. , author of a strange work, with symbols, meanings, documents of some very personal dream worlds and painted with some lacquers I don't know what I think to dye in the bouquet of water, which never completely dry and the work remains sticky giving that feeling of lasciviousness and mystery of sexual interest. He is known for an exhibition at the Beaubourg Gallery in Barcelona in 1978 and his participation in a collective of Catalan artists in San Francisco in 1987.
