Exploring the identity of both her namesake and country, LA-based America Martin draws inspiration from her Colombian heritage and the human figure to represent a diverse portrayal of what and who America is. With resounding vulnerability, Martin showcases a reflection of self and of country while simultaneously addressing her individualism and nationality. Refusing to universalize the American dream or experience, she instead meditates on the importance of individual narration and on her own ability to navigate these ideas through artistic outlet.
Replete with biographical anecdotes and self-reflections, Martin integrates her strong personality and story telling as she cogitates upon the opportunities and challenges that America, the country, has afforded America, the artist. Sparking conversations about what has and has not succeeded in both her personal experience and in the quest for freedom and eradication of bias, each work is created both to question and to express gratitude. Remaining true to her heritage and integrity as an artist, this retrospective serves as a nostalgic memoir infused with tales of opportunity and Martin’s raw talent.
Adhering to her signature style, Martin seamlessly introduces allegory through radical forms and an unmistakable aesthetic sensibility. America Martin is an internationally represented Colombian-American fine artist based in Los Angeles. Martin is a painter and a sculptor. The magnetic pull of Martin's work is authentic, generated by both her ability to express a unique gesture that speaks to a universal truth (thus, we recognize it instantly) and her exceptional skill at rendering that truth via the human form. One of The Hampton's most popular urban Pop artists whose work is collected by Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Alice Cooper among others. He has been call the "Rock and Roll Painter" and "Painter of the Stars of Rock" by the media.
Bathing Beauties by Ceravolo combines acrylic and oil paint with oil stick and spray enamel paint over a newly stylized vintage image of Bathing beauties from the 1920's. This work of art plays with the viewer blocking parts of the women, outlining some of their images, making the viewer go back and forth from the two images, Ceravolo has printed the vintage image with archival inks and then proceeded to paint and "Play" with the imagery. Similar in style to a fellow Hampton artist Larry Rivers, that Ceravolo was friends with. The paper size measures 18x42". Framed size approx 25x48"
