About the Item
Cymn Wong’s style of mixed media paintings are developed alongside with pastel, crayon, acrylic and ink. Rooted from traditional Chinese ink-brush painting to contemporary New York Abstract Expressionism, Wong wields various free and fluent but forceful strokes and creative washing on canvas atop the heritage of her personal Zen calligraphy; in some cases, Cymn has collaged with traditional Chinese papier-mâché. Through the layering of multiple marks, colors and textures, or being used by perspective, she is able to balance her own spontaneity and control to accomplish the desired effect. When Wong applies to blend her canvas with splash-ink, free dyeing and deliberate sealing, her aim is to create a vivid and immersive sense of expanded spectrum that integrates the outsider viewers with the painting landscape.
These stylistic elements combine to create an organic entity that is dynamic, engaging, and deeply contemplative. In exploring the blending entity of art and poetry as extrinsic “landscape” and intrinsic “soundscape”, the brushstrokes are hereby given fresh impetus by a single-unity involvement. Every brushstroke reflects an outer and inner state of creativity. Meanwhile, this embodied experience opens up a transformation and imagination of mindset.
Wong declares, “By embracing plainness, simplicity and intimacy, my art emerges an insight for cultivating a cross-boundary ecological ethos. In most recent development of my paintings, I have been focusing on several key areas that are driving for a creative exploration. Firstly, I am placing a greater focus on the bean sprout as a central element of her work. The bean sprout is a crystalized symbol. Its unique shape evokes the numbers "0" and "1". The "0" of the bean sprout represents nothingness or emptiness, a void spectrum that is co-birthed with “1”. The "1", on the other hand, represents possibilities and growth. By incorporating the shape of the bean sprout into visual language, I link the binary concepts of "0" and "1" to convey a sense of stillness, calm, and openness in the other area of "0". Meanwhile a motion, another state of change comes birth in the open area of "1", building in a dynamic interplay between these two facets for growth and inherent continuously in every subsequent moment. Secondly, I attempt to create an alternative way of revealing the insightful wisdom of Zen philosophy, in a fusion of fluidity and freedom of abstract expressionism, siding along with the contemplative practice of Zen calligraphy. This integration of meditative peace and passionate energy presents a fresh landscape that is holistically dynamic and contemplative, evocative and reflective. The Zen strokes that feature prominently refer to the hope of splashing an endless creativity at any stage of life. Thirdly, in organizing a larger-scale of art forms, I gradually move to create a sense of unity and wholeness that highlights a stimulating dimension of cultural diversity in my painting canvas. Moreover, I strive to develop a stronger sense of spatiality by leaving white space blank within the compositions, which provides a stimulated sense of circulation and contingency, for an experimental interaction of fulfilling the gaps of different 3-D dimensions in life. Last but not the least I embrace my intuition of self-awareness under my personal practice of integrating multiple refreshing technical elements, that always plunging into the fundamental questions of man’s existence and the nature of living being. I appeal to the worldly communities for a spirit of connection and resonance that may well go beyond the surface of my painting art.”
From 2022 to 2023, Cymn has extended a soul karma in her Washington saloon that spearheads to create a masterfully-suited-style of global ethos. The ethos showcases her accomplished selfhood of aesthetic views blending with both Eastern and Western cultures and languages. Wong attempts to vitalize the diversity of built-in imageries and present the visual art communities via a dynamic interaction of natural human passion with the uncontrollable social environment and the universe. In fact, Cynm’s lifelong commitments to bilingual poetry and expanded visual art have been widely applauded in multiple international platforms whereas her English poetry anthology Zen on Fire, published by the New Academia Publishing in Washington in 2021, was well reviewed and rated for five-starred by Amazon literary critic Char Jones. Likewise, Cymn’s solo art exhibition will be presented by the Woman’s National Democratic Club in Washington in 2024.
In short, Cymn renders a refreshing dimension of abstract ink-brushing landscapes with an enriched frame of mind and passion enrooted from poetry that reveals the unspoken meaning of painting art, sublimated by it will power and stimulated imagery, that are imbued with a subtle fuse of intrinsic motion and poetic fluidity, allowing the inner-echoes to lead the brushstrokes on its own accord. It is totally sensitized and mindfully free to strive on an unlimitedly transformed landscape anew.

"A Nonlinear Mind Veins Its White Sky" showcases the artist's skill in utilizing texture, color, and pattern to create a sense of inner dimension. The vivid brushes of Zen calligraphy add nuance to the piece, conveying a sense of emotion and creativity. The expansion of space (Chi or Qi) and extension of time (rhythm) are palpable, as if the painting canvas itself is a living, breathing entity that invites the viewer to explore its many layers of meaning and significance. Inspired by the dynamic energy of sprouting, this painting imagery captures the essence of growth and rapid transformation through a carefree and content approach. Through an upturned and striking compositional process, the artist hereby invites the viewer to explore the intricate details of a peaceful and natural world.
From 2022 to 2023, Cymn extended a soul karma in her Washington saloon that spearheads to create a masterful suited style of American ethos. The ethos showcases an accomplishment in self-realization of aesthetic views of both Eastern and Western cultures. Wong attempts to vitalize certain built-in imageries and present the visual world via a dynamic interaction for human passion with the environment and the universe. In retrospect about the reciprocity between poetry and art, Cymn’s artistic attainments are expanding into a vivid oasis that she has been stimulated in an international platform.

The textural, earthy tones of the moor are complimented by the green/greys and dusky pinks of the sky. I wanted to create movement in this piece, with fast moving scudding clouds. Chalk pastel and Inktense were worked over the earth colours to create moorland grasses. This piece is presented in a soft, off white deep cut mount.

The Desert Shall Rejoice – Jon Rowland – Abstract Expressionism [2020]
Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look
During this year it was difficult to travel. So I looked through some of the images I had photographed from an earlier trip to the desert with its wide views, amazing colours and BIG sky; somewhere warm and interesting. This is one of a series of paintings influenced by the visit to the deserts of Jordan and Israel. After the fascination of Petra, hewn out of rock, it was the sense of freedom in its immensity, the natural forms of craters and wadis at different times that stimulated me; gold in the morning, purple and orange at dusk.

Wychwood Art have exhibited Jon Rowland in London during a pop-up exhibition of theirs at the Darren Baker Gallery. His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Linacre and Green Colleges, at Swann Gallery in Woodstock, and with Wychwood Art at Battersea Art Fair. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown...

Yang Chihung (Chinese: 楊識宏; pinyin: Yang Chihung; born 1947) Taiwanese-American artist.
Yang Chi-hung was born on 25 October 1947, in Chungli, Taiwan. He developed an interest in art in early childhood, and found inspirations to pursue an artist career after reading Lust for Life – The Life of Vincent van Gogh, translated by poet Yu Kuang-chung, in junior high school. Between 1965 and 1968, he attended the National Taiwan College of Art, developing a sound foundation in oil painting under the tutelage of famous Taiwanese artists of the Japanese Colonial period, such as Liao Chi-chun, Li Mei-shu and Yang San-lang. Meanwhile, he actively attended events organized by the modern art groups of Taiwan, namely the Fifth Moon Group and Ton Fan Group, only to find himself both intimidated and dissatisfied with the then relatively conservative art environment in Taiwan. In 1979, he emigrated to the United States of America with his wife, Jane, and their son, Daniel. His pioneering works soon landed him the “Outstanding Asian-American Artist” award. The concept and style of abstract expressionism as represented by the works of Jackson Pollock in the 1950s had great impact on Yang’s work. With the sense of nihilism that gave rise to abstract expressionism in the post-war period, artists no longer clamored to depict the external environment, but rather chose to focus on their own inner experience. Yang Chihung embraced this spirit about the early 1990s when his style turned abstract. In 1984–85 and again in 1985–86, he was twice awarded a year's residency at The Clocktower Studio in New York City by MoMA P.S.1.
In 2013, Yang, along with Xu Bing, Zhang Huan, and Li Chen, were the four artists featured in the Discovery Channel Asia documentary series, Chineseness, a multi-series production that focused on postwar Chinese contemporary artists.
He is of the generation of artists such as Chen Tingshi, Liang Yifeng, Yang Yuyu, Pang Jiun, Yinhui Chen, Jui-Ling Hung, De-Jinn Shiy, Yong-ik Cho, Wan Chuan Chang, Kuosung Liu, Sanlang Yang, Chetsai Shen, Fu-sheng Ku, Chunxiang Zhao, Ming Ju, Ming-Che Huang, Jiutong Liu, In-Ting Ran, George Chann, Yi Hong, Tzu-Chi Yeh, Max Liu, Yi-Hsiung Chang, Che Chuang
