Here for your consideration is a vibrant and richly painted original work of a series of abstract figures by the well known American artist, Neith Nevelson. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. Acrylic paint on artist board with highlights of gold and silver marker. This unique work of art is one that truly embodies her "outsider" label. As described in "Neith Nevelson: In the Middle of the Night," Neith's paintings are visions from her imagination and explore the figurative, symbolic and narrative. As described by the Miami Herald's review of a 1994 exhibition, the form of her art reflects the conflicts and contradictions of her life, living in the world of her famous grandmother and the New York art world of the 1960s. Nevelson's early work take the form of line drawings. Her style developed into complex paintings based on the gestural fluidity of drawing, underscored by her larger art-works which tend to combine elements of all her three major themes - Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism. Some art-critics have labeled Nevelson as “Outsider” artist. Nevelson's grandmother was the sculptor Louise Nevelson, her father, Mike Nevelson (1922-2019), was a sculptor and her mother, Susan Nevelson (1924-2015), was an artist and textile designer. Nevelson grew up in Florence, Italy, and began painting at the age of two. She spent her childhood in Florence and New York City, and as a teenager moved to New York, to live in her grandmother's studio. Nevelson studied briefly at the Accademia di Belle Arti, in Florence, Italy. As a student she concentrated on subjects she eventually became known for rather than the standard curriculum of still life drawings and landscapes. Her first exhibition was in 1974 at the Galleria Nuova in Florence. She lived in Coconut Grove in South Florida from 1977 until her death in 2023. The painting is housed in a green marbleized frame with good grin and inner linen liner. Overall framed measurements are 16.75 by 23.25 inches. Provenance: A Sarasota, Florida estate.

Very well executed oil on canvas painting of a dramatic horse race by the German/American artist Johannes Schiefer. Signed lower right. Condition is excellent. Overall framed in narrow gold leaf frame that measures 21 by 19 inches. Provenance: Contemporary Masters Gallery, Madison Avenue, New York See gallery label and title verso. (Last photograph). Johannes Schiefer was born in 1896 in Alsace and attended the Düsseldorf Academy in Germany. He later moved to Paris where he began his formal art training. Schiefer lived and painted in southern France and Europe until he, his wife, and young daughter fled France for New York in 1942. In the US he continued to paint and exhibit his work at New York galleries. Later in life he was the curator of the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, Long Island. Born in the late 19th century, Schiefer was no doubt introduced to impressionism as a young art student, and it is not all that surprising that he chose to continue to paint in a post impressionist style.
