Alfred Grenfell Haigh
Huntsman and Hounds in an Open Landscape, Alfred Grenfell Haigh, signed

About the Item

Signed hunting scene by Alfred Grenfell Haig (1870–1963). Haig's masterful oil on canvas brings to life the exhilarating spirit of a hunting scene, with a huntsman leading a pack of four distinct hounds—Acrobat, Borderer, Prodigal, and Scorpion—across an expansive open landscape. Haig’s detailed rendering of both the figures and the animals showcases his exceptional understanding of movement and form. The hounds’ powerful yet graceful strides, coupled with the huntsman’s commanding presence, create a sense of energy and purpose within the tranquil surroundings. The artist’s skillful use of light and shadow enhances the depth of the composition, making this piece a striking addition to any collection of equestrian or rural-themed art. Alfred Grenfell Haigh was born in Parkgate, Cheshire. He studied art in Paris, then started to paint professionally at the age of 30. Haigh was a keen horseman and favoured hunting and racing subjects. He did not exhibit but had a number of patrons, including HRH The Aga Khan, the Duke of Portland and Lord Rosebery. The Duke of Northumberland has Haigh’s portrait of the ninth Duke, painted in 1933. Was included in The British Sporting Art Trust’s 1983 show at Alpine Gallery.

Duel, Original Elephant Painting, Safari Animal Art, Landscape Wildlife Painting
By Sophie Harden
Located in Deddington, GB
Duel is an original oil painting by Sophie Harden. This wonderful painting of two fighting bull elephants, kicking up the dust as they go has been inspired by Sophie’s travels to Kenya. Painted on dark a blue background, using contrasting white oil to pick out where the light hits the subject gives this painting a huge sense of movement and fluidity. Sophie’s contemporary monochrome technique allows movement to flood the painting, from the explosive energy and grace of animals to the small details that captures a moment in time. Sophie works to accentuate the adaptation of light, making the viewer perceive a 3D object...
