Spanish artist Xavi Carbonell, born in 1971, paints with the uninhibited spirit of a child—intentionally and joyfully. He titles all of his works “Untitled,” inviting each viewer to interpret the piece freely and create their own narrative. The result is work that feels fun, fresh, and deeply expressive. His playful approach resonates with both children and adults, with many describing the experience of viewing his art as similar to a Rorschach test—each person sees something different, and everyone smiles.
In this piece, imagination takes flight. Are we looking at a party? A playground? A family dinner, an office meeting, a bustling street? The answer shifts with every viewer, every glance.
This mixed media work on canvas incorporates oil paint, graphite, permanent marker, oil pastel, and pen. Vibrant reds, pinks, blues, oranges, yellows, greens, grays, and blacks create striking contrasts against the clean white background. Thick, expressive brushstrokes of oil paint provide tactile texture, standing out against the smooth surface of the Belgian linen canvas.
Critics have likened Carbonell’s work to that of Cy Twombly, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Picasso, and Miró. His art has received numerous awards and has been exhibited across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Carbonell currently lives and works in Alcoi, Spain.
