About the Item
We once viewed “nature” as the broad, creative and controlling force in the universe. Tania Dibbs studied both biology and art, and is interested in our changing relationship to to the idea of nature, which she explores in her “Metanarrative” series.
This large format 96" x 72" original abstract oil landscape painting was inspired by the story of Fritz Haber, who in the early 1900’s was the first to discover a method of directly synthesizing ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen, thus creating fertilizer and enabling the resulting population explosion. The discovery, called colloquially “Bread From the Air,” caused plant growth that was unseen previously.
The piece comes wired for hanging and is in a simple contemporary float frame. The depth of the frame is 2.5”
Tania’s works have received national and international recognition and have been placed in the collections of well-known moguls, Hollywood celebs, and rock stars, as well as hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Viceroy, and Gaylord Hotels. Reproductions of her work are sold at RH. Her works can be viewed on 1stdibs online and personally at her gallery near Aspen, Colorado.
Tania Dibbs is a technically gifted and highly accomplished artist who explores the jagged intersection between the natural world, humanity and culture through painting, drawing and sculpture. The screens and overlays that Tania paints over her scenes both highlight and obscure the landscapes beneath, speaking both to the beauty of nature and the conflicting yet fantastic constructs of man. The competing forces of entropy and growth and the perseverance of nature are recurring themes in her work. Her art is diverse in style yet unified by its intent, passion and devotion to exploration. Tania attended the University of Virginia from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine art and in biology. Her art studies took her to Florence, Italy, the Art Student's League in New York, and the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, Colorado where she won an Aspen Foundation grant to fund her painting study and an Artists' Fellowships for Colorado Artists award to study sculpture. Her honors include a Visual Artist Fellowship award from the Colorado Council on the Arts and an Art in Public Places selection from the state of Colorado. Tania has had one-woman and group shows in Aspen and across the United States, and her work is in the collections of well-known moguls, Hollywood celebs, and rock stars, as well as hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Viceroy, and Gaylord Hotels. Reproductions of her work can also be purchased at Restoration Hardware.

Growth Zone, 40 inch encaustic earth tone abstract painting in wood frame
Located in Basalt, CO
Encaustic is a beeswax-based paint that is applied to a surface while molten and then fused with heat, resulting in a layered, textural effect. The texture of the wax creates interesting patterns and organic shapes within the painting, giving it depth, a tactile quality and adding to its visual appeal. There is no other painting medium that replicate these qualities. The encaustic medium itself creates a luminous and slightly translucent surface that can give the painting a sense of depth and richness.
