STILL THE ONE, Original Abstract Painting

2023

About the Item

STILL THE ONE 60 x 48 inches Mixed media on linen Original painting signed by the artist Unframed Artist's Commentary: "I fell in love with flowers young. I fell in love with travel not long after. Somewhere in the quiet, introspective moments that wash over me when observing a new destination, I began to envision splayed floral patterns in the distant horizons. During the quarantine of 2020, I began to experiment with painting abstract florals and allowed this phenomenon to find its way into my deconstructed landscape paintings. Italian for a thousand flowers, Millefiori commemorates my life-long love of flowers and travel, encapsulating the way I see the world. I combine innumerable layers of translucent color with gestural marks and movements to render abstract landscape compositions that resemble loosely splayed flowers. The ethereal tonal effects and lack of specific contextual representation convey a sense of ambiguity and universality, straddling a space that feels both familiar and imagined, like a bewildering daydream."

Windswept Moorland, Abstract Landscape Painting, Expressionist Art, Layered Art
Located in Deddington, GB
The textural, earthy tones of the moor are complimented by the green/greys and dusky pinks of the sky. I wanted to create movement in this piece, with fast moving scudding clouds. Chalk pastel and Inktense were worked over the earth colours to create moorland grasses. This piece is presented in a soft, off white deep cut mount. Luisa Holden artist paints original art and is available to buy online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. The Desert Shall Rejoice, Abstract Colour Field Landscape Painting, Desert Art
By Jon Rowland
Located in Deddington, GB
The Desert Shall Rejoice – Jon Rowland – Abstract Expressionism [2020] Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look During this year it was difficult to travel. So I looked through some of the images I had photographed from an earlier trip to the desert with its wide views, amazing colours and BIG sky; somewhere warm and interesting. This is one of a series of paintings influenced by the visit to the deserts of Jordan and Israel. After the fascination of Petra, hewn out of rock, it was the sense of freedom in its immensity, the natural forms of craters and wadis at different times that stimulated me; gold in the morning, purple and orange at dusk. Discover new paintings by Jon Rowland and his abstract expressionism with Wychwood Art. Each work has been carefully selected by Deborah Allan our Chief Art Curator. Wychwood Art have exhibited Jon Rowland in London during a pop-up exhibition of theirs at the Darren Baker Gallery. His paintings have been displayed at the Royal Academy and at the Berthold and Darren Baker Gallery in London. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Linacre and Green Colleges, at Swann Gallery in Woodstock, and with Wychwood Art at Battersea Art Fair. He was one of six contemporary artists who took part in an exhibition of views of Blenheim Palace, juxtaposing the original visions with today's, as part of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of Capability Brown...

Large Abstract Expressionist Taiwanese Painting Chihung Yang Chinese Art
Located in Surfside, FL
Chihung Yang American (b. 1947) Untitled (Black and Brown Composition) (1986) Mixed media (acrylic, pastel) on paper Hand signed lower right Sheet 38 x 50 inches, frame dimensions: 45 x 57 x 2 inches, wood frame with glazing Provenance:= From a Corporate Art Collection Yang Chihung (Chinese: 楊識宏; pinyin: Yang Chihung; born 1947) Taiwanese-American artist. Yang Chi-hung was born on 25 October 1947, in Chungli, Taiwan. He developed an interest in art in early childhood, and found inspirations to pursue an artist career after reading Lust for Life – The Life of Vincent van Gogh, translated by poet Yu Kuang-chung, in junior high school. Between 1965 and 1968, he attended the National Taiwan College of Art, developing a sound foundation in oil painting under the tutelage of famous Taiwanese artists of the Japanese Colonial period, such as Liao Chi-chun, Li Mei-shu and Yang San-lang. Meanwhile, he actively attended events organized by the modern art groups of Taiwan, namely the Fifth Moon Group and Ton Fan Group, only to find himself both intimidated and dissatisfied with the then relatively conservative art environment in Taiwan. In 1979, he emigrated to the United States of America with his wife, Jane, and their son, Daniel. His pioneering works soon landed him the “Outstanding Asian-American Artist” award. The concept and style of abstract expressionism as represented by the works of Jackson Pollock in the 1950s had great impact on Yang’s work. With the sense of nihilism that gave rise to abstract expressionism in the post-war period, artists no longer clamored to depict the external environment, but rather chose to focus on their own inner experience. Yang Chihung embraced this spirit about the early 1990s when his style turned abstract. In 1984–85 and again in 1985–86, he was twice awarded a year's residency at The Clocktower Studio in New York City by MoMA P.S.1. In 2013, Yang, along with Xu Bing, Zhang Huan, and Li Chen, were the four artists featured in the Discovery Channel Asia documentary series, Chineseness, a multi-series production that focused on postwar Chinese contemporary artists.
