About the Item
An original oil painting by Sophie Berger. Inspired by mid summer days spent jumping into rivers in South Devon. This piece is painted in oils which creates a depth of colour that wouldn't be possible in other mediums. Deep blues combined with a more turquoise hue and light touches of pale blue.
New original artwork by artist, Sophie Berger is available with Wychwood Art in their gallery and online. Sophie Berger's recent work has been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. She often sketches on the north moors and in Skaigh woods, taking in the mood of the sky, rolling hills and streams or concentrating on the intricate twisted branches and roots of the bracken. Sophie Berger's next stage is to recapture these sketches using oil paint when back at the studio in Kigbeare, thereby creating a strong connection between her work and the landscape. The changeable, moody landscapes awash with colour, horizons and the vast openness have inspired artist Sophie Berger to explore the feeling of being in this environment, so to describe these works as landscapes would be to miss the essence of the places they strive to capture.

Sophie Berger
Sophie Berger is a contemporary artist living and working in Devon. Her recent works have been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. She often sketches in the north of the moors and Skaigh Woods, taking in the mood of the sky, rolling hills and streams or concentrating on the intricate twisted branches and roots of the bracken. Berger’s next stage is to recapture these sketches using oil paint when back at the studio in Kigbeare, thereby creating a strong connection between her work and the landscape.
