About the set paintings:
Shizico's unique approach to paintings, erasing, rewriting, and destroying the landscape in the background through bold strokes of gold leaf on the top layers in this series, works on the concept of bringing distraction to creation. The series exemplifies Shizico Yi's artistic vision, which is ever-evolving and experimenting.
With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso, and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a visual symphony of abstract, these 6 paintings a part of [Sunlit Series], where she developed and explored the colour of yellow, using gold leaf gilding brushstrokes layer with the landscape. These floras in the series are Dahlias in her garden, which are the few flowers bloom from summer into early winter, symbolise longevity and resilience.
The [Sunlit Series] is a profound exploration of yellow; Yellow is a colour she believes has the healing power for those afflicted by grief.
The golden hues dialogue with the layers of landscape in the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements ( the textured gold leaves against the oil paint of the landscape) adds another layer of fascination.
The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject , the deeper meaning of the landscape, the memories and the artist-self.

About the Artist
Dr. Shizico Yi is a London-based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns loss, repetition, everyday subjects and memories. With a design and film background, Shizico combines her interests in making installation projects which relate to the artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master's in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angeles. The USA.
