About the Item
Waiting for a Friend portrays waiting as a state of transformation, where time is not empty but an accumulation of emotions. The dense brushstrokes and explosion of color create tension between expectation and uncertainty. At the center, a circular form evokes an absent presence, suggesting that waiting is not only for another but also for a part of oneself yet to be discovered.
Reynier Ferrer Pérez
Reynier Ferrer's work is a visceral reflection of his life and emotional states. His painting, deeply intimate and expressive, emerges from a spontaneous process where the subconscious and improvisation play a key role.
Born in Havana, Cuba (1979), Ferrer trained at the San Alejandro
Academy and continued his studies with Spanish painter José Luis Fajardo at El Hombre y sus Entornos. He currently lives and works in Miami.
His career in contemporary art includes more than 14 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows in over 30 countries. Among his most recent solo exhibitions are:
• Inquietantes Dicotomías (2024), Duque Arango Gallery, Medellín and Bogotá.
• An Act of Faith (2023), Ascaso Gallery, Miami.
• Evolving Journeys (2023), duo exhibition at Art of the World Gallery, Houston.
His work has been exhibited in institutions such as Lincoln Center
(New York), Warwick Museum, and the Watson Institute at Brown
University (Rhode Island). It is part of the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and has been selected for the City of Miami’s public art program. Additionally, his work is present in private collections in more than 30 countries.

Artistic Process & Language
His work is based on automatism and pictorial experimentation. Without preliminary sketches, his compositions emerge in a state of trance where gesture, texture, and chance create striking visual encounters. In his paintings, abstraction and figuration coexist in a dynamic tension that evokes desire, intensity, and transgression. Reynier Ferrer
Reynier Ferrer was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1979. He studied from 2000 to 2004 in the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana. He lives and works in Miami today. His uncle, Edmundo Desnoes, says that “Rey gave expression to the suffering of the Cuban people during the years of agony of the revolutionary power, expressing in twilight canvasses the obstinate existence and survival of our country. Now, today, in Miami and New York, the paintings of my nephew express the explosive clash of his native sensibility and the dynamic and brutal world that embraces and recognizes us. The works of enormous visual power of Reynier, of creative chaos, is for the XXI century what Wilfredo Lam and Rene Portocarrero were for the past century.”
