Composition is an original oil pastels drawing on paper, realized in 1970 by the French artist Jean Pons (1913- 2005).
This contemporary artwork, signed and dated on the front and on the lower margin at the center, reports autograph notes (a greeting message) of the author on the back.
Representing three male portraits or masks, this original drawing is sketched through a synthetic lines and Fauves colors.
In excellent condition, with irregular margins, the beauty of this drawing is in its phosphorescent colors. Likely the greeting message is to the Countess A.L. Pecci-Blunt.
Jean Pons (Paris, 1913 -2005)
Born in Paris on the eve of the First World War, in 1913, Jean Pons will be a pupil of the Parisian Estienne school. In 1938 he founded a lithography atelier which will be attended by the artists of the École de Paris, including Russian painters such as Nicolas de Staël, Lanskoy, Charchoune, Poliakoff, Delaunay, Kandinsky, Zadkine . At the beginning Expressionist and Fauvist, Jean Pons creates still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, and then evolved in the 48's towards abstraction, built on the straight line and the angle, adopting collage and mixed techniques. "I came to abstraction for the sake of risk," wrote the artist in 1986.

Jean Pons
Jean Pons was born in 1913 in Paris and died in 2005. He was a great French artist of the 20th century. In 1938, he founded his lithography studio which allowed him to work with all the great artists of the century such as Nicolas de Staël, Serge Charchoune, Robert Delaunay, Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky and Serge Poliakoff. In parallel, Jean created his pieces in an Expressionist style. Later on, he started working on classic subjects like dead nature, landscapes and portraits. In the late 30s, he turned towards abstraction and practised different techniques including collage and mixed techniques. But this period lasted only a short time and under the influence of the New Figuration movement, he took a figurative style. He kept his predilection for bright colors although his choice of colors softened gradually.

"Myth of Sisyphus VI (Each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain)" is an original contemporary painting by Georgia-based artist Vivian Liddell. This work is part of her new 2022 series titled "Myth of Sisyphus." As a multidisciplinary artist, Liddell brings a dynamic approach to her vivid, colorful two-dimensional pieces. This particular piece shows a landscape with shrubbery, rocks, and a field underneath a black sky. Framed image is an example of the frame in which it can come in. Framing is an additional $100.
From the artist: "Gender and power are core concepts in my work. I’ve spent two decades in “The Classic City” (Athens, Georgia), surrounded by a dual Greek culture. Fraternities and sororities separate students by gender and play a part in cementing gender roles and power structures for the next generation; ubiquitous Classical architecture (often accompanied by manicured landscape) is a constant reminder of Western ideals.
After a career of painting the female figure and exploring themes related to the male gaze and the lingering inequalities that women face, I’ve focused the past five years on the male figure and his domain. My education was dominated by Western art history, where women were seen as muses; I’m reversing this traditional dynamic between the male artist/intellectual and his female subject.
I create tiny “plays” with handmade props and puppet plasticine figures to reenact imagined dramas that might happen on any given home game day...
