About the Item
Born in Ottawa in 1976, Jean-François Provost holds a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the Université du Québec en Outaouais. He has received several awards and honours for his work as a painter and has produced close to twenty solo exhibitions in the last ten years. His work in painting and drawing has been presented in Canada, Austria and Italy. Provost's work can be found in many corporate and private collections in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
"Provost's painting evolves through series responding to specific formalist concerns. Drawing, being for the artist a gestural manifestation of the unconscious, plays a determining role in the composition of his paintings. He argues that his approach to drawing and painting "goes far beyond simple execution on a support, in that it requires a detachment from the preparatory drawings, in favour of the composition of the work. The preparatory drawings, executed in a completely automatist manner with Indian ink, graphite and sanguine, then cut out, constitute the embryo of a creation that will be constructed in a completely studied and reasoned manner, according to a logic that respects my questions about space and purification. "His work is mainly oriented towards a search for composition through line, depths, mass relationships, gestures and trompe l'oeil. Provost defines himself, above all, as a visual artist.''

What the night delivers" an original abstract contemporary landscape by Gina Parr and other works from the series "Love or Money", explore the deep emotional connection with land and sea scape that the Artist's father gave to her; taking her with him on his day and night fishing trips when she was a child. Working with the memories and emotions of both joy and saudade for time past and life experience gained, her practice reflects her fundamental need to express this bitter- sweet nature of the human condition through abstracted scape and form. In this work Parr is interested in conveying both the joy and the apprehension of her memory of an overnight trip in the darkness to fish with her father.
Gina Parr is available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Gina works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections Worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston's Children's Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London.
