About the Item
The Mountains Live Within Me is a semi-abstract landscape painting by Helen Howells. It was inspired by the hills, valleys and mountains of South Wales, which is my homeland. It is not of any specific place, but is a combination of many walks and memories, that have calmed my mind and awakened my soul. Helen Howells is an artist living and working in the historic village of Caerleon in South Wales. Helen initially trained as a nurse, however following a career break whilst she raised her family, she took the decision not to return to nursing but to pursue her original ambition to become a fine artist. Upon completion of a Foundation Art course at the University of South Wales in Caerleon, in which she gained a distinction, Helen embarked upon establishing herself as an artist, focusing primarily on the dramatic Welsh seascapes and landscapes which she loves. Working predominantly in oil on canvas, she uses brush and palette knife marks to create rich textures which have been described as sensitive and expressive. Helen uses a semi-abstract style to capture the essence of the image, drawing upon her experiences and deep emotional connection with the Welsh countryside. Her work focuses on the dynamic nature of light, and its interaction with the surrounding environment. The creation of each painting is an emotional journey in which Helen endeavours to engage the viewer to reach their own interpretation.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Helen Howells is an artist living and working in the historic village of Caerleon in South Wales.
